Today, from power grids to wireless networks and the World Wide Web,
cyberspace permeates our daily lives and, enabled by the global digital
infrastructure, has become a powerful, virtual environment that provides a
common landscape for government, commerce, science, education, and
communication. Cyberspace plays a significant role in enabling the
communications, monitoring, operations, and business systems that underlie
many nations’ and organizations’ critical infrastructures. At the same
time, cyber attacks are increasing in frequency, diversity, and impact.
Vulnerabilities to cyber attacks can lead to critical disruptions in
telecommunications, banking, utilities, data storage, and transportation
services. Cybersecurity is therefore one of the most significant challenges
to economic and national stability, and must be addressed. Developing and
deploying innovative approaches to cybersecurity management and improving
cybersecurity education and training are two critical means that offer
potential benefits to all sectors of our society and economy.

Recognizing the increasing importance of cybersecurity, we are organizing
this Special Issue of Security Informatics (Springer) on “CyberSecurity
Research and Education.” We invite researchers to submit high-quality,
original research articles on the following topics, which include but are
not limited to:

- Combating malware and botnets
- Cyber-crime prevention, detection, and analysis
- Cyber forensics
- Large-scale identity management
- Modeling cyber attacks
- Privacy-aware security
- Social media analysis for cybersecurity
- Survivability of mission-critical systems
- Visualization for cybersecurity
- Cybersecurity workforce training
- Cybersecurity education
