Faculty position in IS/MIS at the American University of Beirut


 The Olayan School of Business at American University of Beirut invites
applications for a position in Management Information Systems with a
preferred (not mandatory) specialization in Business Analytics. Rank is
open, and priority will be given to those with track records/promise of
publishing in top journals in IS/MIS and related fields and with training,
teaching, and research in Business Analytics and “Big Data” topics. A Ph.D.
is a requirement from an AACSB or equivalent accredited institution. The
ideal candidate will be able to complement our current faculty and take a
leadership role in molding and expanding our programs and course offerings.
American University of Beirut is a research university, and maintaining a
strong publication record will be important for the successful candidate.


The IS/MIS group is located in the Business Information & Decision Systems
(BIDS) Track (department) of the Olayan School of Business, making it an
ideal location for a Business Analytics program. The IS/MIS group has a
long tradition of publishing in top-tier journals in MIS and allied
fields—including the basket of 8 of AIS.


The standard teaching load for faculty at the Olayan School of Business is
2-2 for the professorial rank. The successful applicant will be expected to
teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and to provide service to the
area, college, and university. Faculty at AUB are encouraged to obtain
external funding for their research. The Olayan School of Business is
located in a new state-of-the-art building opened in 2009 designed by
Machado and Silvetti Associates. In addition to BIDS Track, the business
school has areas of Finance, Accounting, and Managerial Economics Track,
and Management, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship Track. The school offers
undergraduate BBA, two Masters of Science (including in HR and Finance),
and a MBA (Traditional) programs. The BIDS area is exploring offering a
degree in Master in Business Analytics.


The academic programs at American University of Beirut benefit from several

tradition. Many in the university are interested in related discipline of
big data. A university-wide initiative is currently underway to explore big
data programs as cross-disciplinary research. Additionally, American

large hospitals and a sizeable healthcare industry, a regional banking hub,
the world’s largest regional energy production area (Gulf). American
University of Beirut University is ranked 250+ by QS World University
Rankings 2012. The university was built in the style of 1860s architecture
and boasts one of the top universities in terms of quality of campus life
in the region with its idyllic settings.


American University of Beirut is located in the Capital of Lebanon, a
vibrant city of culture enjoying a fusion of east and west. It has a
Mediterranean climate combined with high altitudes within 1-2 hours driving
distance. The climate is excellent: Winters are short and relatively mild
and summers are warm with ideal beach weather.
