Dear Colleagues,
Below is the CFP for SCECR 2014. Please circulate this email (or the link
to the CFP <http://scecr.org/scecr2014/call-for-papers/>) to others who may
be interested:

*Call for Papers*
We invite submissions for the Tenth Symposium on Statistical Challenges in
eCommerce Research <http://scecr.org/scecr2014/> (SCECR 2014) to be hosted
in Tel Aviv, Israel on June 12-13, 2014 at Tel Aviv University.

*Objective*
Over the past several years, we have witnessed the emergence of a wide
range of information technology-enabled business and social models: from
online retailing to online dating to crowdsourcing and crowdfunding. In
parallel, entire industries have changed due to information technology: In
media industries such as music, publishing and film, digital goods have
significantly altered patterns of consumption; in service industries,
consumer interactions through online reviews and social networks are
enabling a shift in power between consumers and producers.

This new era is marked by the availability of large amounts of data on
behaviors and events that have not been previously available. Researchers
have been collecting and using such data to answer a variety of new
questions addressing the social and economic impact of information
technology enabled models. This new landscape of data and questions,
however, raises many data-related problems and challenges. The purpose of
this conference is to gather an interdisciplinary group of researchers
whose common interest lies in using empirical methods for deriving insight
from digital data in e-commerce and related areas, and in particular, in
tackling the empirical challenges that arise in this domain.

We invite submissions of papers that highlight statistical challenges and
empirical opportunities related to eCommerce research and related areas.
This year’s theme, in line with the conference’s venue in Tel Aviv, capital
of “Start-up Nation”, is innovation. We encourage submissions on topics
related to innovative business models, social models, as well as innovative
empirical approaches.

Submissions are welcome in a broad range of areas, including the
digitization of media industries, online distribution of content,
electronic marketplaces, online social interactions, search engine
advertising, and more. We also welcome methodological contributions on
statistical, data mining or other approaches motivated by
information-technology-enabled data. Submissions should highlight
statistical/empirical challenges that arise in collecting, modeling, and
converting data into knowledge.

*Submission Guidelines*
Authors are invited to submit abstracts (maximum of two pages, including
text, references, figures and tables) of their work for consideration at
the conference. Abstracts should outline the research conducted as well as
identify the statistical challenges associated with it. Given that this is
a work-in-progress symposium, we will evaluate abstracts based on the fit
with the symposium’s goals and their ability to stimulate lively
discussions around empirical challenges and potential solutions. Please
submit abstracts online at
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=scecr2014. If you have not used
Easy Chair before, you will have to go through a short registration process.

Submission Length: 2 pages
Submission File Type: PDF (preferred) or Microsoft Word
*Deadline for Submissions: March 1, 2014*
Notification of Decisions: March 30, 2014
Conference Dates: June 12–13, 2014

Hope to see you in Tel Aviv,
SCECR 2014 Conference Co-Chairs
Galit Shmueli, Gal Oestreicher-Singer, and Inbal Yahav
