The AMCIS Doctoral Consortium seeks to help Information Systems doctoral students in the middle to latter part of their doctoral studies (i.e., after their first year of the program) to develop an effective career plan based on their personal and professional goals. The consortium has three primary objectives: 1) provide networking opportunities for students with peers and faculty, 2) help students strategize about their research, teaching, and career plans, and 3) prepare students for the job market.

We anticipate a group of 40 students and 14 faculty mentors (plus the two Co-Chairs). The program includes three faculty panels on how to manage one's: 1) research program, 2) teaching responsibilities, and 3) career planning. In breakout sessions after each panel, small groups of students will discuss the panel topic with their faculty mentors and fellow students. The intent is for students to apply the panel topic to their personal and professional goals, with input from faculty mentors and peers.

Application Criteria

Students wishing to participate in the AMCIS 2014 Doctoral Consortium should:

  1. Be studying Information Systems (or related discipline) and plan to address an Information Systems-related topic for their dissertation.
  2. Have completed the first year of their doctoral program. Note that this is more inclusive than previous years where the AMCIS consortium was focused on PhD students entering the job market. PhD students toward the middle and later part of their doctoral studies are encouraged to apply.

Consortium faculty will review each application (DUE DATE: April 25, 2014 - see application form). The review process emphasizes applicants' accomplishments and potential. Multiple students may apply from one school. Diversity of applicants, institutions, and countries will be considered in selecting the AMCIS 2014 Doctoral Consortium cohort. Priority will be given to students studying at universities in the AIS Americas region.
