Call for Proposals

The World Conference on Mobile and Contextual Learning (mLearn) was the first conference on Mobile Learning and is the premiere international conference on learning with mobile technologies and learning in and across contexts. The conference provides a unique forum for knowledge sharing and transfer for academia, developers, practitioners, industry, government, and organizations. Every year, mLearn attracts a great number of participants from more than 60 countries representing all continents.

In 2014 the 13th edition of the conference calls for contributions from academic researchers, developers, professionals, practitioners, and educators from school education, higher education, industry, government, and international organizations. A lot of topics of last year’s research are nowadays absorbed into mainstream education and training and mobile devices have become a part of the everyday learning environment of teachers and learners. This results in new challenges for the field of mobile learning and future research.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Theories and Methodologies about mobile and seamless learning in context

○      Ubiquitous and ambient learning and technology
○      Interoperability and standards for mobile learning
○      Innovative approaches to learning of current and emerging mobile technologies
○      Adaptive, virtual or collaborative environments for mobile learning

Instructional Design for Mobile and Seamless Learning
○      Orchestration of mobile learning
○      Mobile learning in and across formal and informal settings
○      Open and distance education with mobile devices
○      Interaction design and usability for mobile learning

Mobile learning across cultures and educational sectors
○      Challenges for mobile learning in developing countries
○      Social empowerment through mobile learning
○      Using mobile technologies for development
○      Mobile language learning
○      Mobile learning strategies in schools, higher institutions, industry, and organizations

Submission formats
The conference programme will highlight keynote talks, symposia/workshops, plenary sessions, parallel presentations, roundtables and debates, special focus sessions, poster sessions, technology and product/service demonstrations.

Submissions are invited for:
•        Full papers (10 - 14 pages)
•        Short papers (5 - 8 pages)
•        Posters (2 pages)
•        Workshops (3 pages)
•        Tutorials (2 pages)
•        Industry showcases (1-2 pages)
•        Doctoral Consortium (4 pages)

Submissions for mLearn 2014 are handled through EasyChair. All contributions will be reviewed in a double-blind peer-review process. All accepted papers and posters will published in the conference proceedings. In addition, the best papers from mLearn 2014 will be invited to submit an extended versions of their papers for publication in a special conference edition of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning (IJMBL).
