Invitation for applications for position of Editor-in-Chief of Decision
Sciences journal

The Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) is seeking qualified candidates for
the Editor-in-Chief of Decision Sciences. The Editor will serve four years,
starting with January 1, 2015, and may be reappointed to a second two-year
term. The basic responsibility of the Decision Sciences Editor is to publish
six high quality issues of the Journal in February, April, June, August,
October, and December of each year.

The mission of the journal is to publish "scholarly research about decision
making within the boundaries of an organization, as well as decisions
involving inter-firm coordination. The journal promotes research advancing
decision making at the interfaces of business functions and organizational
boundaries." As a flagship journal of the Decision Sciences Institute, the
journal has a rich history and a record of publishing high quality
multidisciplinary research, from a variety of disciplines. The scholarly
impact of the articles published in the journal has been significant and the
articles have influenced the evolution of knowledge across a range of
disciplines. This mirrors the DSI's bylaws which state that we are a
comprehensive multidisciplinary association and that "Decision Sciences is
the union of quantitative and behavioral approaches to managerial decision
making encompassing all of the functional areas of business." (See further
details below.)

The search committee seeks individuals who are thought leaders and
internationally renowned scholars in their chosen discipline. With respect
to intellectual interests, the Decision Sciences Editor should have broad
familiarity with virtually all functional and methodological areas related
to managerial decision making. The Editor must also pursue a strategy
consistent with the Institute's multi-disciplinary focus and the eclectic
interests of its members.

Each candidate or nominee for the Editorship position is requested to
provide the following information:

1. Current curriculum vita that includes information about education,
academic and administrative positions, publications, honors and awards,
professional affiliations and activities, and other relevant items.

2. Detailed description of editorial experience with premier scholarly
journals.

3. Statement of interest and availability to serve as Editor, including a
description of anticipated academic and professional responsibilities for
the next four years. Full disclosure of any potential conflict of interest.

4. Statement of editorial philosophy, including views on editorial policy,
directions the publication should take, and composition of and approach to
working with Senior Editors, Associate Editors, and reviewers.

5. Vision for an editorial structure that might be appropriate for
attracting and managing high quality submissions from multiple disciplines
represented by the Decision Sciences community.

6. Brief description of administrative, organizational and managerial
experience.

7. Brief description of Institutional commitment for the support of the
editorial office for the next four to six years.

The due date for nomination/application for the position is June 30, 2014,
though the process will remain open until the position is filled. All
nominations and applications should be addressed to Vice President Merrill
Warkentin, Chair of the Search Committee, (m.warkentin at msstate.edu).

Details of the DSI Goals and Mission, supported by the Decision Sciences
journal:

Our charter indicates that the members specialize in functional areas such
as information systems, finance, marketing, management, accounting,
manufacturing/service management and decision support processes as well as
institutional areas such as healthcare, public administration, resource
management, and higher education.

Methodologically, the journal has typically drawn from the research
techniques employed by leading scholars, including experimental designs,
empirical quantitative analysis, optimization, surveys, and other rigorous
scientific methods, but we seek to pursue innovative methodological horizons
as well.

The Decision Sciences Institute Constitution (Chapter 2, Article II) states
that our publications should facilitate the attainment of the goals of the
Institute, which are to:

1. enrich the diverse disciplines of the decision sciences;
2. integrate these disciplines into bodies of knowledge that are effectively
utilized for decision making;
3. develop theoretical bases for such fundamental processes as
implementation, planning, and design of decision systems; and
4. improve educational programs in the decision sciences.
