FROM: Cynthia Beath, Chair, ICIS 2018 Site Advisory Committee
The Site Advisory Committee (SAC) of the ICIS Executive Committee
solicits expressions of interest to submit preliminary bids to chair
ICIS 2018, in AIS Region 1 (the Americas). Bid procedures can be found
at https://ais.site-ym.com/?ICISSiteSelection.
Listed below are locations already selected for the next several years:
2014 - Region 3 - Asia/Pacific (Auckland, New Zealand)
2015 - Region 1 - The Americas (Ft. Worth, Texas)
2016 - Region 2 -- Europe, Middle East, Africa (Dublin, Ireland)
2017 - Region 3 - Asia/Pacific (Seoul, Korea)
Locations in Region 1 that were frequently nominated in a recent survey
of AIS members include: New York City, San Francisco, Vancouver, Miami,
San Diego, Los Angeles, and Boston. In general, survey respondents
nominated big cities that have many cultural attractions, good dining
and shopping opportunities, and with nice weather in December. For a
global conference, it is also desirable that the location be easy to
reach. Please do not feel that you can only chair ICIS if it is held in
your town. Today, the bulk of the local arrangements for ICIS are taken
care of by AIS staff, and so conference chairs do not have to be local.
Individuals interested in bidding to chair ICIS 2018 are requested to
complete the AIS Notice of Intent to Bid (NIB) form
https://ais.site-ym.com/?ICISIntenttoBid and submit it no later than
June 1, 2014. Completion of this form will confirm your intentions to
bid. Once the form is received, you will be contacted by Lise
Fitzpatrick, AIS Conference Director, who will answer any questions you
have about preparing your preliminary bid and next steps in the
process. PLEASE NOTE: Do not contact any hotel/venue or convention and
visitors bureaus about your interest in bidding. Lise Fitzpatrick will
handle initial communication with local contacts.
Hosting a major conference of AIS can be a rich and rewarding
experience. If you have any questions about bidding and potentially
hosting such an event in general, I welcome your inquiry, as do the
other members of the Site Advisory Committee.
