This minitrack is in its second year, and is designed to bring together
innovative educators from all walks of system sciences. With such widely
diverse backgrounds, experience, and skills, we ask: are we as teachers
delivering the best education and training possible?

The rapid pace of technology development and diffusion challenges us to
keep curriculum current and has dramatically influenced student attitudes
and industry expectations of them. How does technology affect education and
training? Today's students are highly computer literate, globally
connected, and extensive users of social media. They have come to expect
that all information is readily available, accurate, secure and timely.
They are not motivated to learn about technologies they consider mundane.
When they graduate they find they will work in a world characterized by
global competition, regulatory requirements, information security, highly
distributed workforces and tough economics. What innovative methods can we
use to address these issues and delivery dynamic, meaningful education?

We will examine innovations in education and training from two diverse but
related perspectives; namely, how to use information and communications
technology (ICT) as the platform for innovative instructional delivery and
how to offer education and training about ICT.

We are looking for contributions from educators in industry and academia to
learn from each other through presentation of methods and innovations that
work -- or avoid approaches that do not work. We are also interested in
relevant research directed towards education and training.

How are new ICT paradigms being introduced and taught, and what are the
practical means of implementing them in the classroom? What drives or
degrades the demand and relevance of technical education and training?

Submissions focusing on specific ICT sub-areas such as information
security, systems development, health informatics, social media, online
systems, or jointly with other disciplines such as social science or
education are particularly welcomed.

Topics include but are not restricted to:
• Novel approaches to information and communications technology (ICT)
curriculum design;
• Enhancing distance, online, and hybrid education through use of ICT;
• Education and training within specialized areas such as information
assurance, software and systems development, and industry-specific uses of
ICT;
• Global IS projects, including social, political, economic, and cultural
issues;
• Use of tools and environments in the classroom, including social media,
open source and commercial products;
• Industry-academia collaboration and ensuring that student knowledge meets
industry needs;
• Entrepreneurship and IS business issues;
• Making students aware of requirements for information systems in
specialized domains such as healthcare, biotechnology, and finance;
• Teaching outside the normal classroom or laboratory setting, e.g.
educational collaborations with industry, community groups and public
service organizations enhancing student learning;
• Integrating IS research into teaching;
• Teaching students new paradigms, such as cloud computing or global
globally distributed work;
• Educating the educators, introducing innovative methods which can be used
to keep the educators up to date;
