The 24th Annual Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS'14) will be held in Auckland, NEW ZEALAND, on December 17-19, 2014, just after the International Conference on Information Systems. The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussion and interaction among scholars with research interests in the cutting edge issues of information technologies and systems. The theme of WITS'14 is "Value Creation from Innovative Technologies"
Ever since its inception, technology has always played a critical role in the global economy. Over the last decade or so, rapid pace of technology advancements has created both challenges and opportunities for business, governments, and society as whole. Newer and innovative technologies, often disruptive, have facilitated both tactical and strategic decision making by helping users collect, mine and analyze a large amount of data. Availability of this large data is continuing to transform every aspect of organizational processes and decision making. Since technologies facilitate low cost data collection, organizations have troves of data, also termed as Big Data, that needs to be managed, mined and analyzed carefully to create value for all stakeholders. This becomes even more crucial because the large amount of detailed data poses security and privacy challenges for stakeholders. At issue is developing capabilities to design solutions by leveraging innovative technologies and big data to create value for all the stakeholders. Since it is a workshop, WITS also actively solicits papers describing novel research ideas that may be at a relatively early stage of development. Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Agent-based Systems
Agile System Development
Big Data & Business Analytics
Cloud Computing
Collaboration and Recommender Systems
Computational Ontology
Conceptual Modeling
Data, Text and Web Mining
Data Warehousing & OLAP
E-Business and E-Commerce
Enterprise Systems & Resource Planning
Grid Computing
Healthcare IT
Human-Computer Interface
Information Personalization Technology
Information Quality, Privacy, and Security
Intellectual Property Protection
Intelligent Systems and Technologies
Knowledge Management Technologies
Mobile Commerce and Wireless Technologies
Peer-to-peer Technologies
Process management and mining
Resource and organizational modeling
Search Engines
Security techniques for information systems
Service-Oriented Architecture and Web Services
Social Networks
Supply Chains and IT
Systems Analysis and Design
Systems to Support Collaboration & Negotiation
IT Infrastructure for Evolving Business Models
Virtualization

Submission Types
Regular Paper
As WITS is a workshop, it particularly encourages early stage of research that will lead interesting discussions in the workshop. For this reason, there are two types of submissions in WITS 2014 - Completed Research Paper or Research in Progress. The Completed Research paper may have maximum length of 10 single spaced pages and the Research in Progress paper may have a maximum length of 6 single spaced pages.
Demo/Prototype
Demos and prototypes showcase implementations of innovative IT artifacts (i.e., constructs, models, methods). They provide opportunities to demonstrate and discuss emerging IT artifacts with researchers and practitioners.
Instructional Innovation
Instructional innovation submissions can describe either innovative instructional technologies or teaching cases, and should emphasize innovative use of IT or business cases in the classroom related to teaching IS/IT topics. The objective of innovations in instructional technology and teaching cases is to bring together well-developed ideas that can assist the academic community in their quest to deliver information technology curricula.
Journal Publication Opportunity
Authors of selected workshop papers and research prototypes will be invited to submit complete versions of their research for review and possible publication in a special issue of one or two Information Systems journals. The details related this will be announced later when the final arrangements have been made.

Information For Panel Organization
Panel discussions are forums that allow researchers to discuss complementary or conflicting perspectives. Typical panel proposals will have the following elements: Introduction, Specific issue and (conflicting) positions from panelists, panel structure (timing, format, etc), commitment to attend from the workshop from panel members, biographical information on the panelists and moderator reflecting their expertise on the subject, and references. Please submit your panel proposals directly to the program co-chairs.

Submission Instructions
Regular Paper Submissions
Submitted regular research papers are limited to 6 or 10 single-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, 8.5" by 11" pages (including tables, figures, and references and 1" margins on all sides). All submissions will be subject to double blind review. Selection for presentation at the workshop and publication in the proceedings will be based on originality, contribution to the field, and workshop interest. As WITS is a workshop, WITS particularly encourages early stage research papers. Following this there are two types of submissions of regular papers in WITS 2014 - (1) Completed Research (maximum 10 pages) (2) Research in Progress (maximum 6 pages).
Demo/Prototype and Instructional Innovation Submissions
Demo/prototype submissions should include, wherever feasible, links to the associated software or demo (along with screenshot(s) to provide the audience an indication of the functionality).
For instructional technologies, the submitted materials should include technology overview and demonstration, along with an integrated business application context. For teaching cases, the submission should provide detailed descriptions of the cases as well as suggestions and lessons learned regarding the adoptions of the cases in classrooms. Instructional innovation submissions should follow a similar format as demo/prototype submissions but instead articulate the quest to improve IT curricula, or teaching pedagogy. Demo/prototypes and instructional innovation papers should follow the same formatting requirements as regular papers, and should not exceed 6 pages. Accepted demo/prototypes and instructional innovation papers will be presented as posters during the workshop.
Submission Process
All submissions must be sent in electronic form using the WITS 2014 submission system (will be announced later). Please select your submission category from one of the following four in the process of submission:

1. Completed Research Paper (maximum 10 pages)

2. Research in Progress (maximum 6 pages)

3. Demo/Prototype (maximum 6 pages)

4. Instructional Innovation (maximum 6 pages + additional materials as needed)

The electronic submission system will be available from 18th July 2014.
