The Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics (CIS & BSAN) department at James Madison University anticipates an opening for an assistant professor for a tenure-track appointment beginning in Fall 2015. The ideal candidate would be able to teach a variety of topics in the areas of application development, architecture, networking, security, and/or business intelligence/analytics. A PhD in information systems, computer science, analytics, or a closely related field with a strong foundation in business applications is required. The faculty member will be expected to conduct meaningful applied research in this area. Special consideration will be given to candidates with teaching and industry experience spanning both technical domains and consulting/managerial areas. Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness with excellent communication skills and commitment to scholarly research is required.

JMU is consistently ranked as one of the best regional institutions in the U.S. The College of Business is among the top 5% of business schools accredited by AACSB and is consistently ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek as a top 20 public undergraduate business program. The CIS major is ABET-accredited and faculty have received numerous awards and recognitions for outstanding teaching and service. In 2012 and 2013, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the CIS program among the top ten undergraduate programs nationally. The CIS & BSAN Department is staffed by 21 full-time faculty and currently has over 500 undergraduate students in the CIS major. The department also serves both Business Analytics and CIS minors, as well as teaching several courses in the business core. Faculty also have the opportunity to teach in three graduate programs: Information Security MBA (ranked 9th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for online graduate business programs), Innovation MBA and MS in Accounting. The campus is located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in northwest Virginia.

The position is contingent on final funding approval and will be posted to the JMU JobLink site when it is approved. Applicants will need to submit an application, cover letter, vita, statement of teaching philosophy, and the names of three references at that time. Beginning review date will be one month after posting.
