**********************************************************
International Workshop on Decision Making and Recommender Systems 2014

  September 18-19, 2014, Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.
  http://dmrsworkshop.inf.unibz.it
**********************************************************

Deadline for Poster Submissions: 24th August, 2014

Background and Scope
=======================
While most research in recommender systems is conducted in recommendation
techniques, which boils down to rating prediction algorithms, there is still
too little discussion on the impact of the supported user interaction and
its effect on the decision making behaviors that are enabled and supported.
User interactions and decision-making are however critical in recommender
system research. Hence it is important to design the interaction while
understanding its impact on the user decision-making behavior and heuristic
in order to support an effective process. Therefore with this workshop we
aim to go beyond recommendation techniques and algorithm evaluations and
further merit the research attention from both recommender systems and human
factor.

This workshop aims to bring researchers and practitioners together from user
interaction, decision-making and recommender system research communities,
especially focusing on integrating research interests across different
communities. Also, we aim to provide a platform for discussing approaches,
models, research results and case studies addressing a broad range of issues
related to recommender system and user interaction. We are specifically
interested in discussing the interdisciplinary research challenges and
emerging research directions.

We have invited a list of high-profile speakers, addressing the
interdisciplinary and relevant topics. More information can be found at
http://dmrsworkshop.inf.unibz.it/workshopprogram.html

Poster submissions
=================
We call for extended abstracts, and hands-on demonstrations. All submissions
will be reviewed by the conference organisers. While promoting the
presentation of novel, even if, not completely validated ideas and theories.
Hence, preference will be given to innovative, truly interdisciplinary work,
bridging the research gap between recommender system and user decision
making.

Each submission should be max 2 pages plus the references. The submissions
should be formatted using Springer LNCS Format
Submission Deadline: 24th, August 2014
The notification will be on a rotating basis, early submission is therefore
encouraged.

Please submit your contributions to
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dmrs2014

Call for Participation
=================
In addition to poster presenters, we have a very limited number of places
for participating to the workshop (free of charge).
In order to apply for the participation, please submit a Letter of
Motivation to participate this workshop. In this letter, Motivation and
Relevance of your work to this workshop should be clearly specified. A brief
CV should be attached together with this letter.

The Letter of Motivation and your CV should be submitted in one pdf file by
email to Francesco Ricci (fricci At unibz.it) and Mouzhi Ge (mouzhi.ge At
unibz.it)

The registration to this workshop is free of charge.

===========
Introduction

Big data is an emerging paradigm applied to datasets whose size is beyond
the ability of commonly used software tools to capture, manage, and process
the data within a tolerable elapsed time. Such datasets are often from
various sources (Variety) yet unstructured such as social media, sensors,
scientific applications, surveillance, video and image archives, Internet
texts and documents, Internet search indexing, medical records, business
transactions and web logs; and are of large size (Volume) with fast data
in/out (Velocity). More importantly, big data has to be of high value
(Value) and establish trust in it for business decision making (Veracity).

Cloud computing is positioning itself as an emerging platform for delivering
information infrastructures and resources as IT services. Customers
(enterprises or individuals) can provision and deploy Cloud services via
pay-as-you-go pricing models saving huge capital investments in their own IT
infrastructures.

As estimated by IDC, by 2020, about 40% data globally would be touched with
Cloud Computing. Cloud Computing provides strong storage, computation and
distributed capability in support of Big Data processing.

BDCloud (Big Data and Cloud Computing) was created to provide a prime
international forum for researchers, industry practitioners and domain
experts to exchange the latest advances in Big Data and Cloud Computing as
well as their synergy.

OPEN FORUM: THE WORLD IT PROJECT
FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 2014, 6:00 PM TO 7:30 PM
ROOM 200, CONVENTION CENTER, AMCIS CONFERENCE, Savannah, Georgia

If you are a researcher from outside the U.S. and would like to participate
in this landmark research, please attend the open forum on ?The World IT
Project?. This groundbreaking research is likely to make a major imprint
on IS research for years to come. The World IT Project is designed to
examine important issues confronting IT employees, both staff and
management, in many countries of the world. The proposed project requires
survey data collection from different countries, representing different
cultures, levels of economic growth, societal and religious beliefs, and
political systems.

More than forty countries from all parts of the globe will be targeted.
The project was initiated in 2013 and already 16 countries have been signed
up. Typically one to three investigators will be assigned to each
country. There are significant benefits to you in joining the project as
well as roles and responsibilities.

If you are interested, please let us know in advance that you will be
attending the session. Simply send me an email. Representatives from the
project core team will be at the forum to provide an overview of the
project and answer questions.

In terms of scope, the project is akin to Hofstede?s research on culture
and the GLOBE project. The project will examine organizational IT issues,
technology issues, and individual issues. Among organizational IT issues
are: IT strategic planning, IT-business alignment, business process
reengineering, security and privacy, and IT reliability and efficiency.
Technology issues include cloud computing, social media, ERP systems,
business intelligence, and big data, again to name just a few. Individual
issues include job satisfaction, efficacy, and role ambiguity. Contextual
variables include such factors as the organizational structure and
strategy, organizational culture, IT occupational culture, and national
culture. For more information about the project, please refer to:

Call for Participation,? Journal of Global Information Technology
Management, Vol 16, No 2, April 2013, pp. 1-5.

For each targeted country, data will be collected from 10-15 IT employees
from 25-30 organizations, yielding a minimum sample size of 300. The direct
benefits to you from joining The World IT Project are the following:

* You get readymade instrument and procedures. Your main effort is in data
collection.
* You have access to the best expertise.
* You will have co-authorship in several publications. This will include
co-authorship using data from your country and co-authorship in comparative
studies that include your country.
* You will have international colleagues to collaborate with.
* There will be tremendous opportunities for growth

Your roles and responsibilities will include the following:
* Commit to the project and collect quality data in a timely manner.
* Assist in writing.
* Be responsive to project requests and deadlines.
* Attend an annual meeting of the group to discuss project progress and
results.

The project core team members include:
