Special Issue of the Australasian Journal of Information Systems (AJIS)
Indigenous use of Information and Communication Technologies

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have a critical role to play in supporting Indigenous self-determination, strengthening Indigenous identity and providing a strong Indigenous political voice. ICTs also have potential to address Indigenous disadvantage through connecting business and government to Indigenous communities. This special issue seeks to explore new and innovative ways that Indigenous peoples are using ICTs in supporting and enhancing their everyday lives.

This special issue has two objectives
1. To publish empirical research on the use of ICT by Indigenous peoples.
2. To articulate a research agenda for the Information Systems discipline to provide leadership in this emerging and important field.

Academics and researchers are invited to submit research papers that examine the role and use of ICTs by Indigenous peoples. Recognising the diversity of this emerging field, we encourage submissions focusing on all aspects of Indigenous use of ICTs. This includes, but is not limited to, workplaces, educational use, community use, personal use and specific applications. Theoretical papers as well as theory-founded case studies are welcomed.

Some prospective topics on Indigenous peoples use of ICTs could include:
* Application of IS theories, such as diffusion theories as they apply to Indigenous peoples.
* Government or private sector incentive schemes to support Indigenous peoples use of ICTs
* Sustainability issues associated with Indigenous peoples use of ICTs in remote Indigenous Communities
* Digital divide and digital literacy programs
* Indigenous uses of ICTs in unique contexts
* The role of social media in Indigenous communities
* Role of user behaviour in Indigenous peoples use of ICTs
* Academic case studies on Indigenous uses of ICTs or Internet and 3G/4G infrastructure
