Business Intelligence *

*Aims and Scope*
With the rapid advancement of both business techniques and technologies in
recent years, knowledge has become an important strategic asset that can
determine the success or failure of an organisation. Indeed, research and
practice have shown that rapid and effective conversion of data and
information into working knowledge is a major contributor to competitive
advantage. One very effective response to the needs for creation,
aggregation and sharing of knowledge can be found in the sphere of Business
Intelligence (BI). Making sound business decisions based on accurate and
current information and knowledge requires more than simple intuition, and
BI is becoming indispensable to an organisation’s success in the global
economy. BI is currently one of the fastest growing areas of information
and communication technology with current trends including developments in
green computing, social networking, data visualisation, mobile BI,
predictive analytics, composite applications, cloud computing, multi-touch
and big data, among others. The aim of this special issue is to assess the
relevance of these trends in the current business context through
evidence-based documentation of current and emerging applications as well
as their wider business implications.

We solicit contributions related, but not limited to the following topics:

   - Design and implementation issues in BI involving data warehousing, ETL
   and OLAP
   - Security and privacy issues in BI
   - Trust and risk management in BI
   - Visualisation and data analytics for BI
   - Data mining techniques for BI applications
   - Intelligent agents for BI
   - BI and knowledge management
   - Impact of BI on business strategy
   - BI best practices
   - Impact of cloud computing on BI
   - BI and big data
   - BI and green IT
   - BI and the social Web
   - Impact of organisational culture on BI
   - BI and Information Systems
