2014  pre-ICIS Workshop on GIS.   Geographic Information Systems analyze
spatial data to provide unique perspectives and decision support to a broad
spectrum of applications including transportation, planning, real estate,
and marketing.

*DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP*



GIS and its related phenomena are growing rapidly in this decade, energized
by pervasive cloud and mobile technologies and by competitive advantages.

This workshop will:

•      Explain fundamental spatial concepts.

•      Justify GIS’s importance in the IS discipline.

•      Explain role of geo-spatial analysis and intelligence for business &
government.

•      Provide connections with IS concepts

•      Explore existing research methods, body of published work, theories,
research questions, journal outlets.

•      Provide cutting-edge GIS research through *contributed papers* on
GIS, Locational Analytics, Spatial Reasoning, and Spatial Business
Intelligence.

 Since this area is expanding and becoming essential in business and
government, the workshop  can advance research in a new and evolving
sub-field within IS.



The Objectives are (1) Provide a tutorial on spatial concepts, and
locational analytics, (2) Examine and discuss research opportunities and
challenges in Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis, as
related to the field of Information Systems (IS), and (3) Offer a forum for
presentation of contributed research papers on GIS and Spatial Analysis in
the context of IS/IT and organizations.



The morning session focuses on the tutorial and exploration and discussion
of research opportunities in spatial analytics and GIS.



In the afternoon session, the contributed research papers will be presented.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION:  October 1, 2014

The *format for papers submitted* is downloadable from the SIGGIS website  (
siggis.wikispaces.com)

*Length*:  papers can be up to 18 pages single-spaced including all text,
figures, tables and appendices.  The page count excludes the cover page,
abstract, keywords and references.



The paper will be sent to reviewers, and acceptance decisions will be made
by October 20, 2014



Papers will be published electronically as the workshop proceedings on the
SIGGIS website (siggis.wikispaces.com). Those accepted will appear in the
conference proceedings and selected papers on GIS related to development
will be forwarded to the journal, Information Technology for Development,
for expedited full journal review.
