*Open Rank Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Communication and Technology –
Rutgers University*

THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION in the School of Communication and
Information at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, seeks
applications from strong scholar-teachers with expertise in *Communication
and Technology*—with a focus on the social, political, discursive, or
psychological processes and impacts of evolving digital technologies
including, but not limited to, topics related to social media, social
networks, virtual environments, international contexts, digital inequality,
privacy and surveillance, community engagement, or mobile communication. We
welcome applications from communication and technology scholars whose work
could intersect with the department’s existing foci in interpersonal
communication, health communication, language and social interaction, and
organizational communication.

The Department of Communication is dedicated to advancing knowledge about
communication and its practice in society. Our faculty scholarship is
focused on Communication and Technology, Health Communication,
Interpersonal Communication, Language and Social Interaction, and
Organizational Communication. The School of Communication and Information
values a climate of cross-department collaboration and interdisciplinary
commitment to the development of discoveries and new ideas in response to
contemporary communication challenges. The School is committed to four
problem-based research foci: health and wellness; global media and
democracy; organizations, policy, and leadership; and social media
interaction & collaboration. We especially seek candidates from
under-represented groups who would further our commitment to scholarly

*Qualifications: *All candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in a
relevant field no later than May 2015. The ideal applicant’s program of
research should complement the research foci of current faculty. Applicants
should have a demonstrated record or strong likelihood of top-tier
peer-reviewed publication as well as evidence of effective teaching. Senior
level applicants should provide evidence of integrative leadership in
research, instruction, and external funding. Letter of application should
address these points, and clearly articulate the candidate’s fit to
specific departmental and school-wide research interests. Duties of the
successful applicant(s) include undergraduate and graduate teaching in the
candidate’s field of scholarship, an active program of research in the
candidate’s area of scholarly expertise, and service contributions to the
advancement of the academic profession, to the effective operation of the
university, and to society at large in accordance with university policy
expectations for tenure-track appointments.
