Patient-centered e-health (PCEH) represents a fascinating area of digitized stakeholder interactions characterized by complex information flows, shared decision making, co-created value, and mutual interest in improving health outcomes. Such a context lies in contrast to often contentious firm-consumer relationships characterized by self-interest, surplus maximization (from both producer and consumer sides), and consumer segmentation.

Learning Objectives:

1. What makes the PCEH context different (and interesting)?

2. Why is the PCEH context appropriate for theory building?

3. What research questions remained unanswered (or "under" answered)?

Presenter:

Dr. Baird is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Health Administration (and has a secondary appointment with the Department of Computer Information Systems) at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. He received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Before joining the Institute of Health Administration at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, he was a board member at the Arizona Health Information and Management Systems Society (AZ HIMSS) and a software developer/architect/project manager for a variety of companies including Penton Media, the University of California San Diego, and Data Systems and Solutions (a joint venture between SAIC and Rolls-Royce).
