CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
for the 2nd International Workshop
SMART UNIVERSITY 2014 (http://smartuni2014.workshop.hm <http://smartuni2014.workshop.hm/>)

Friday, 14 November 2014, University of West London, Ealing, UK

We cordially invite you to participate in the 2nd international
workshop Smart University at the University of West London.

Sharing data and information and providing transparency are a basis
for innovation and academic growth. Linking personal experience to
group and university-wide experience helps develop an evidence-based
view on the organisation. Sensors can, for example, easily track
temperature, humidity, and noise level in and outside the classroom;
they can also help automatically determine actual class size. In addition,
mobile sensing solutions can enhance social contexts and enable social
media, especially offline interactions mediated by mobile phones or
specialised sensors.

In this second workshop of the series we want to further explore
the possibilities of acquiring and using contextual data.

The main goal of the Smart University workshop series is to provide
a forum for the discussion of trends, research issues and practical
experiences. Ideally the workshop is able to forge shared goals
and benefit from shared experiences. In addition to presentations
this workshop will offer organised and open spaces for targeted
discussions.

A highlight of this year's workshop will be an invited talk from
industry. Federico Montella (HLM architects, London) will give a
talk on thermal comfort in Higher Education buildings. Federico
studied Architectural Engineering at the Politecnico of Torino and
at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He has worked in
Italy as a town planner and later attained an MSc in Sustainable
Environmental Design at the AA. He has since then worked in
London as a sustainability consultant for Sheppard Robson and
HLM developing an expertise in low energy housing, education
and masterplanning.

You can find out more about the workshop and how to register
on the website, http://smartuni2014.workshop.hm <http://smartuni2014.workshop.hm/>.
