Department Chair of Supply Chain and Information Systems

The College of Business at Iowa State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of Supply Chain and Information Systems at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure in either Information Systems or Supply Chain Management. The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean, and works with the Dean and Associate Deans in coordinating the overall administration of the department. The Chair regularly interacts with other department chairs, central administration, the Dean’s Office, directors, faculty members, students, and external constituents of the college and the university.

While providing leadership in multiple areas, the Department Chair also develops, administers, coordinates, and promotes the academic programs offered by the department. The Department Chair prepares course schedules by working with the Dean’s Office and faculty, and represents the department within the college, across the university, and to external constituencies. As outlined in the college’s strategic plan, the Department Chair supports teaching, research and service, and conducts faculty promotion, annual performances, pay evaluations, and tenure reviews.

The Department Chair is responsible for recruiting and retaining faculty members; assisting with career development; developing and coordinating external relationships with recruiters, alumni, and other groups; working closely with development staff on fund raising; and developing and communicating plans to advance the department’s goals. Lastly, the Department Chair oversees the departmental budget and expenditures to meet departmental goals as well as supervision of staff including coordinating outcomes assessments and preparing for accreditation reviews.

An earned doctorate degree in Supply Chain, Information Systems, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required. Candidates must also meet the university standards for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor with academic credentials and records appropriate for tenure in the Supply Chain and Information Systems Department. Experience in an administrative role within an academic unit of higher education institutions is preferred.
