University of Otago, School of Business, Department of Information Science

The University of Otago Business School is seeking an internationally recognised academic leader with expertise in Information Systems to join the Department of Information Science.

With a record of world-class research and teaching, the successful candidate will play a leadership role in an exciting new facet of the department, leading curriculum development in the area of Information Systems, including strategic, managerial and business aspects.

The appointment offers the opportunity to assume appropriate leadership responsibilities at the Department, Division and University levels. The successful candidate will have the capability and willingness to serve as Head of Department in the future.

In addition to providing an exciting leadership opportunity, the successful applicant can expect their research to be strongly supported.

Additional responsibilities include: supervising postgraduate research students, mentoring the research activities of staff, and developing key collaborations between the Business School, relevant academics, business, industry and government partners.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of eminent scholarly research, with evidence of a substantial international reputation, including: an active research agenda, an extensive and current record of publication in top international journals, and demonstrated ability to generate external research funding.

The successful appointee will have a track record of effective curriculum design and delivery, demonstrated evidence of supervision of postgraduate research students and high quality teaching at a range of levels.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cooperate and maintain effective relationships are also essential.

The position is based at the University of Otago’s main campus in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is the only university town in New Zealand, and offers an attractive environment, a very comfortable standard of living, and proximity to mountains, lakes and rivers with ready access to skiing, hiking and fishing.  Dunedin offers excellent infrastructure, and has recently been named as New Zealand’s Gigatown, which means it will have the fastest internet in the Southern Hemisphere.

Established in 1869, the University of Otago is New Zealand’s oldest and most research-intensive university, highly ranked for its research quality. It has a total enrolment of around 20,000 students spread across four academic divisions. The Business School is internationally recognised with EQUIS and AACSB accreditations and is the only New Zealand School in the prestigious PIM (Partners in International Management) network.
