Assistant Professor in Data Science (0.8-1.0 fte)
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of TU/e has a vacancy (ref. V32.2132) for an Assistant Professor in the Architecture of Information Systems (AIS) group.

Job description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in the Architecture of Information Systems (AIS) group which is part of the Information Systems (IS) section. AIS is the globally leading research group in the exciting new field of process mining (www.processmining.org<http://www.processmining.org/>). Process mining techniques focus on process discovery (extracting process models from event logs), conformance checking (comparing normative models with the reality recorded in event logs), and extension (extending models based on event logs). The work resulted in the development of the ProM framework that is widely used in industry and serves as a platform for new process mining techniques used by research groups all over the globe. Moreover, many of the techniques developed in the context of ProM have been embedded in commercial tools. See also www.processmining.org<http://www.processmining.org/>.

The position
The position is affiliated with the Data Science Center Eindhoven (DSC/e) and the EIT ICT Labs Data Science Master Program (DSC) in particular.
The DSC/e is an initiative of the Eindhoven University of Technology and the scientific director of this center, prof. Wil van der Aalst, is also chairing the AIS group. The DSC/e is an initiative of the TU/e to set up a world leading research program in data science. The center is run as a doctorate school with a scientific research program consisting of seven major research programs. The programs are inspired by industrial and societal challenges and will leverage the world class competences at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the fields of data analytics, business analytics, human technology interaction, and systems design.
The DSC master program (http://www.masterschool.eitictlabs.eu/programmes/data-science/) is part of the EIT ICT Labs Master School. It provides an international Master's program in ICT Innovation. EIT ICT Labs combines majors in technical fields with a minor in Innovation and Enterprise in a two-year program that involves different universities for the first and second year. Students not only acquire fundamental knowledge and skills relating to technical subjects, they also learn how to bring your innovative ideas onto the market.
We are searching for outstanding candidates with expertise in Data Science to join the AIS group at TU/e. The candidate should have an excellent research record, including independent research, and have enthusiasm for coordinating an European Data Science Master Program, teaching and student supervision. The candidate is expected to have or gain experience in acquiring research funding and be willing to take up administrative responsibilities.

Tasks
As assistant professor in the Architecture of Information Systems (AIS) group, in particular, you will fulfill the following activities:
* Coordinating the EIT ICT Labs Data Science Master Program. This involves high interaction with the local coordinators of other European universities in order to align the Data Science Master program, selecting students eligible for the program, and co-operation with the EIT ICT Labs Master School office. This will be the main activity in the first year.
* Teaching of courses in Data Science and developing new courses in this area. The teaching duties also include the supervision of internships and master projects in the entire field of information systems, either internal to the university or executed at companies and institutes outside the TU/e.
* Perform research in Data Science and in Process Mining in particular, thereby broadening and/or deepening the scope of research topics studied in the AIS group. The research duties also include the supervision of PhD students and writing and submitting research proposals.
* (Limited) administrative tasks in the Computer Science Department.
Note that in order to professionalize the teaching skills of its staff the TU/e requires all lecturers to take a teaching-training program (leading up to the BKO, a basic certificate in teaching). This training is offered by the TU/e and the hours are subtracted from the initial teaching load. In addition, we expect the candidate to be able to lecture in respectable English, therefore an English language assessment will be held after appointment.
