Job description

The post-doctoral researcher will advance the group's research agenda on ICT architecting for ICT platforms in engineering systems, specifically in the domains of e-mobility and e-health. The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to (1) Advancing understanding on how ICT platform architectures are designed in practice and what the organisational and technical challenges are; (2) Developing innovative methods to elicit requirements from stakeholders on ICT platform architectures, early in a design process; (3) Develop design knowledge on how to develop and open up ICT platform architectures. The research is sociotechnical in nature but requires deep understanding of ICT technologies. The post-doc will work on the research themes by carrying out tasks in two EIT ICT Labs projects: 3cixty (ICT platform for city visitors) and HWB (a community of e-health startups).

Organization

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is a multifaceted institution offering education and carrying out research in the technical sciences at an internationally recognised level. Education, research and design are strongly oriented towards applicability. TU Delft develops technologies for future generations, focusing on sustainability, safety and economic vitality. At TU Delft you will work in an environment where technical sciences and society converge. TU Delft comprises eight faculties, unique laboratories, research institutes and schools.
The core activity of the Department of Engineering Systems and Services is to understand and predict emerging technological innovations and user service patterns, and use these insights for improved design, regulation and operation of engineering systems and services in the domains of energy, mobility and ICT.
In today’s society, ICT plays a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning of systems. Systems, applications and information sources are distributed worldwide. Often data from multiple sources need to be combined, requiring the integration of these systems. However, information is stored in heterogeneous systems and has various degrees of quality, which complicates information sharing. The focus of the ICT section is on ICT architecting and creating ICT infrastructures that are interoperable, flexible, robust, scalable and secure. ICT architecting is rooted in the notion that there is co-evolution between emerging technological innovations and user behaviours.
