Call for Papers:
AMCIS' 2015 Track Human Capital in IS (SIGLEAD) (CfP)
August 13-15, 2015, Puerto Rico
Submission deadline Feb 25th

Track Description

The Human Capital in IS is aimed at fostering a forum for IS scholars engaging in a range of human capital related research including IS leadership, professional services and career development/training. Specific objectives of the track are to allow members to share their research, engage in exchange of perspectives, and encourage future collaborations. The track is sponsored by the AIS Special Interest Group on IS Leadership (SIGLead) with this track forming an expansion of a theme on IS Leadership that has been hosted at AMCIS from 2003 through 2014.

Though articles on human capital abound in the practitioner press, much less attention has been devoted to the topic from an academic perspective. IS professionals – whether leaders at the CIO level, IS project and line staff or external professional service providers – are the human dimension of the discipline and therefore issues surrounding IS practice are of enduring concern to IS academics and practitioners alike. Mini-tracks cover the range of the track interest (divided between mini-tracks covering IS managers/leaders and IS professionals/workers) and authors will be encouraged to submit both conceptual and empirical papers that employ a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

Track: Human Capital in Information Systems (SIGLEAD)
Track chairs: James Denford, Paola Gonzalez

Minitracks: IS Leadership Development & IS professional Development
Minitrack chairs: Jennifer Gerow, Paola Gonzalez

Instructions for authors: AMCIS website ( http://amcis2015.aisnet.org/ )

Sincerely,
Jim & Paola

Dear List Administrator:

I am surprised that my posting made yesterday regarding JITCAR 16.3 is not listed below.
Also, 6 days back, I had posted JITCAR 16.2. Even that was not listed.

Also, whenever, I send a message to AISlistserv, I do not get a message. In that case, I have to ask my brother Dr. Prashant Palvia, also an MIS Professor, if he received. This is really cumbersome and not acceptable.

On May 15-16, 2015, MIT will host the 5th Annual Interdisciplinary Symposium on Decision Neuroscience (ISDN) in Cambridge, MA.

ABOUT ISDN

This symposium is unique in that it brings together a range of constituencies involved in the use of neuroscience techniques to understand consumer decision making - world renowned academics, neuroscience research companies, marketing research executives and industry leaders. It offers two days to mingle and present the latest breakthroughs on using neuro and physiological measures to understand decision making behavior in business contexts and more broadly.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Deadline: Mar 2, 2015 (5pm EST)

The organizing committee will select papers for presentation at the symposium based on extended abstracts (one page, single spaced). The abstract should state the study's objectives, briefly describe the methods, summarize the results obtained and state the conclusions. The body of the abstract should be no longer than 2300 characters, including punctuation (not spaces). All abstracts should be emailed to isdn15 at temple.edu<mailto:isdn15 at temple.edu> by 5 pm EST on Mar 2, 2015. Decisions about the abstracts will be communicated to the authors by Mar 23, 2015. Selected papers would ideally not be published prior to the symposium.

Selections will be based on quality, relevance to decision neuroscience, and contribution to breadth of topics and interdisciplinary approaches. (Note that all abstracts do not necessarily require neuroscience data, but should have the potential to encourage discussions about a possible role for neuroscience.) We consider not just the individual merits of the papers, but how they complement other submissions from scholars in different fields to form a cohesive session. The organizers will invite authors of the abstracts not selected for talks to present their work as posters.

Limited travel awards will be available to offset expenses for students and junior faculty. More details about the conference, registration, travel awards and accommodations can be found at:
http://truthserum.mit.edu/ISDN2015/<http://foxschoolofbusiness.newsweaver.co.uk/b4lrczvd8w7vpt4vi6gdcq?email=true&a=6&p=48347865&t=28257813>.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by email: isdn15 at temple.edu<mailto:isdn15 at temple.edu>.

Final Call for Workshop Proposals: Critical Alternatives 2015

We hereby invite workshop proposals for Critical Alternatives 2015 (http://www.aarhus2015.org<http://www.aarhus2015.org/>).

The fifth decennial Aarhus conference, Critical Alternatives, aims to set new agendas for theory and practice in computing for quality of human life. Workshops at the conference provide an opportunity to discuss and build communities around specific issues and topics within the field of information technology. This is inherently an interdisciplinary conference, and we invite workshop organisers to consider how different perspectives can help establish constructive and critical discussions of workshop themes. Workshops are intended to foster discussion and exchange. Because focused interaction among participants is important, participants should have informed positions based on prior experience, as expressed in their position papers. Workshops should not be miniature paper presentation sessions, but focus on community building and communal knowledge creation.

Workshops are full-day events held at the start of the conference on 17 or 18 august 2015. Workshop proposals should aim to attract between 10 - 25 participants, and plan for around six working hours, with scheduled morning, lunch and afternoon breaks. There are two groups of people involved in a workshop: the organizers and the participants. Organizers are responsible for the workshop's topic, logistics, and final outcome. Participants are responsible for the content and discussion.

Workshop proposals should be sent directly to the Workshop Chairs, Peter Dalsgaard & Anna Vallg?rda, at workshops at aarhus2015.org<mailto:workshops at aarhus2015.org>.

Important Dates:

Submission deadline: 22 February 2015

Notification to workshop proposers: 9 march 2015

Publication-ready deadline: 1 June 2015

Deadline for first announcement and workshop web page launch: 1 april

Deadline for position papers: 15 may

Notification to workshop participants: 15 June (early registration 30 june)

Workshop Days: One-day sessions: 17 or 18 august 2015

Preparing and Submitting a Workshop Proposal:

Workshop proposals should be formatted using the ACM SIG Proceedings template (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates) and should contain:

- an abstract describing the aims and objectives of the workshop. (Maximum of 300 words)

- a short description of the workshop discussing the benefits and significance of running a workshop on the proposed theme. The description should also include an overview of the - workshop (including duration and planned activities) and short biographies of the workshop organisers. (Maximum 2000 words)

- a call-for-participation draft for potential workshop participants

- a recruitment strategy detailing how the organisers plan to recruit and select participants. (Maximum 500 words)

Selection Process: Curated

Chairs: Peter Dalsgaard & Anna Vallg?rda (workshops at aarhus2015.org<mailto:workshops at aarhus2015.org>)

Archives: Workshop summaries will be published in the Proceedings vol 2 (published in print and online).

If a workshop is accepted, both Critical Alternatives 2015 and the workshop organizers will publicize the workshop to solicit potential participants to submit position papers. Workshop organizers are expected to put up a website for the workshop no later than April 1st and solicit participants through a Workshop Participants Call for Participation. Critical Alternatives 2015 will place a link to workshop websites on the Conference Workshops Page and will also distribute a general call for workshops on relevant mailing lists on April 2nd. Please note that the time between acceptance of a workshop and the required first announcement is short and plan accordingly..

Interested participants in the workshop submit a position paper to the organizers of the workshop. Position papers are statements of interest and/or expertise in the workshop topic, in any format or media as defined by the workshop organizers.

The workshop organizers will review position papers using their own criteria, and will decide on the final list of participants.

Middlesex University Dubai takes great pleasure in announcing the Third International Conference on Emerging Research Paradigms in Business and Social Sciences (ERPBSS-2015). For the nearly 200 delegates representing about 100 international academic institutions the First (2011) and Second (2013) International Conference on ERPBSS provided a forum for inter-disciplinary dialogue and forms of scholastic communication that transcended disciplinary and subject-specific boundaries.

In the Third International Conference ERPBSS 2015 we seek to explore "What's Next?". The world faces incredibly complex changes that shape our collective futures. We live in a time of increased mobility and connectedness, as forces of globalization and technological change are redefining the economic, social, political, and physical systems of the world. Inevitably, ideas and knowledge are transcending their traditional disciplinary and geographic boundaries. While this transformation offers increasing opportunities for innovation, it also contributes to increasingly complex global and local challenges that must be met with increasing attention to a more sustainable future.

The eight tracks of the ERPBSS 2015 Conference are:

1) Accounting, Finance and Economics
2) Contemporary Psychology
3) Education Training and Development
4) Information and Communication Technology
5) International Law and International Relations
6) Management and Marketing
7) Media, Journalism, and Communication
8) Tourism and Hospitality

Through these tracks the conference intention is to bring together perspectives from multiple disciplinary and epistemological perspectives. The design of the conference will provide wider opportunities for dialogue than conferences with narrower scopes. Additionally, this year we are launching the "Research Matters" visual paper session, which offers delegates an opportunity to engage more in-depth with presenters. We also invite delegates to submit proposals for Organised Symposium around a specific topic.

Track 4: Information and Communication Technology

The information and communication technology track of this conference aims to examine emerging paradigms and innovative practices, particularly those related to the adoption, use and implications of information and communication technology. We are seeking papers that engage theoretically with the subject area and/or signify pioneering applications and developments. The objective is to present work that is transformative and which embraces serious intellectual discussion.

Although we are open to any submission that is aligned with the goals of the conference and this track, we do encourage submissions particularly relating to the following themes:

* Web 2.0, Web 3.0, social media, and social computing

* Cloud Computing and Services in Global Settings

*         ICT and sustainability

* Ethical, legal and social issues in the digital age

* ICT adoption, use, and value creation

* Social shaping of information technology

*         Virtual and augmented reality

* Educational technologies, and mobile and ubiquitous learning

* Virtualization and technologization of everyday life

*         Mobile applications and services

*         New developments in e-business, e-learning, e-government, e-tourism

*         New developments in m-business, m-learning, m-government, m-tourism

* Applications of decision support systems, expert systems and artificial intelligence

* Security technologies, cyber security, digital forensics and biometrics

* Information systems, information and knowledge management strategies

*         Network management and innovation

*         Human-Computer Interaction

*         Information Technology Project Management

==================== CALL FOR TUTORIAL PROPOSALS =======================
In conjunction with Hypertext 2015, the 26th ACM Conference on Hypertext
and Social Media.
Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus, Cyprus
September 2-4, 2015
http://ht.acm.org/ht2015/
http://ht.acm.org/ht2015/cfp_workshoptutorial.html
March 13, 2015: Tutorial and workshops proposals due
=========================================================================
The ACM Hypertext conference focuses on all aspects of modern hypertext
research
including social media, semantic web, dynamic and computed
hypertext and
hypermedia as well as narrative systems and applications.
The 26th ACM
Conference on Hypertext and Social Media conference is pleased
to invite
proposals for tutorials to be held with the conference.

The goal of tutorial
is to present state-of-the-art theories, methodologies and
techniques from
experts in the field. Topics of interest should be related
to the main
conference tracks, in relation on novel aspects to be examined
in deep.
Interdisciplinary tutorials are also encouraged.We expect
proposals for
half-day tutorials.

The goals of the workshops are to provide a more informal setting
for
exchanging opinions, to share experiences, presenting ideas, foster
research
community and identify open problems and/or explore directions for
future
research. As such, they also offer a good opportunity for researchers
to
present their work and to obtain feedback from an interested community
in an
interactive atmosphere. Proposals are especially encouraged on emerging
topics,
somehow related to the main conference tracks (links and connection
between
people, open data and the semantic of things, user experience and
adaptive
linking), but are not limited to other (novel) topics which might
be of
interest for the hypertext community. Acceptance of workshop proposals
will be
based on the experience and background of the organizers in the topic,

and on
the relevance of the subject matter with regard to the topics addressed
in the
main conference.We welcome proposals for different types of workshops,
from
working groups on a specific topic to more traditional conference-like
workshops. However, we prefer interactive workshops that guarantee richer

active interactions among participants and provide significant room for

controversial and stimulating discussions.We preferentially would rather

proposals for half-day workshops. The need for a full-day workshop should
be
motivated by some particular reason. Potential proposers are invited to
discuss
their ideas with the workshop chair before working out a detailed
proposal.

====================== PROPOSAL FORMAT (TUTORIALS) =========================
The tutorial proposals ? not longer than 3 pages - have to be sent by
email to the workshop chairs, and must contain the following information:
- Title of the tutorial
- Tutorial presenters (affiliation, contact details, homepage, and prior
experiences with tutorial organization, if any).
- Keywords (describing the main themes of the tutorial) (from 3 to 5)
- Abstract (up to 70 words)
- Description of the tutorial (topics and goals of the tutorial)
(up to 500 words)

- Intended audience and expected attendance (with historical data of past
versions of the tutorial, if available)
- Previous editions of the tutorial (if applicable) (URLs, conference it
was
co-located with, number of participants , and any other relevant
information)

The organizers of accepted tutorials are then expected to prepare a
tutorial Web
Site with the information about the tutorial.

====================== PROPOSAL FORMAT (WORKSHOPS) =========================
The workshop proposals ? not longer than 5 pages - have to be sent by
email to
the workshop chairs, and must contain the following information:

number of
accepted papers, and any other relevant information)

The Workshop Proceedings will be published in the ACM Hypertext Extended
Proceedings. If the organizers have addition plans for dissemination (for
example,
a special issue of a journal) this needs to specified in the proposal.

=============== ORGANIZATION OF WORKSHOP===============
After the acceptance of a workshop proposal, the organizer(s) should:

- Create and distribute a Call for Papers and a Call for Participation;
- Create a Web page for the workshop, with the call for papers and the
information about the workshop organization and timeline. The link of the
web
site will be published on the Conference Web site;

Call for Papers

Third International Workshop on Security and Forensics in
Communication Systems (SFCS 2015), in conjunction with The Twentieth
IEEE Symposium on Computers and

Communications (ISCC 2015)
LARNACA, CYPRUS, July 6, 2015
https://sites.google.com/site/iscc15sfcs/

The ever increasing number of applications, remotely delivered
services, and networked systems have required the need for digital
security. Today, more and more

companies are experiencing security incidents and cybercrimes, by
which attackers could generate fraudulent financial transactions,
commit crimes, perform an

industrial espionage, and disrupt the business processes.

The sophistication and the bordeless nature of the intrusion
techniques used during a security incident, have triggered the need
for developing efficient incident

response plans. In this context, digital forensics has emerged as a
disciplined science allowing to note and collect evidences left on the
compromised system prior

to the incident occurrence, and carry out an analysis to: (a)
understand what occurred; (b) determine the set of exploited security
weaknesses; (c) trace attackers

to their source; (d) study the attackers trends and motives; and (e)
propose a set of optimal countermeasures to stop and mitigate the
effect of the attacks.
The third edition of the international workshop on Security and
Forensics in Communication Systems (SFCS 2015) will be held in
conjunction with the Twentieth IEEE

Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC 2015). It promotes
research and innovative ideas in the realm of security and digital
forensics, and provides a

prominent venue for researchers, scientists, engineers and
practitioners to share their thoughts, exchange ideas, and prospect
future and potential axes of

collaboration. Papers focusing on any aspect of the theory and
practice of security and digital forensic science are solicited. A
large spectrum of advanced topics

are covered, ranging from anti-forensics detection and recovery,
protocols security and forensic in wireless and mobile communication
systems, multimedia security

and forensic content processing, development of novel theories and
techniques of security and forensics analysis and validation, and
forensics in cloud computing and

social networks.

The workshop will act as a forum for discussing open issues, and
presenting original and unpublished research results and innovative
ideas in the realm of security

and digital forensics. We encourage contributions describing
innovative work in the realm of security and digital forensics. Topics
of interest include, but are not

limited to:

- Formal and theoretical techniques of communication security
- Legal and policy issues in security
- Availability, privacy, authentication, anonymity, trust, and access control
- Security aspects in e-services, e-government, e-learning, e-voting,
and m-commerce applications

  Dear Colleagues,

Due to many requests, the submission deadline of BPMDS'2015 for full
papers has been extended to February 22th.

Abstract submission is required for February 18th.

BPMDS is a two-day working conference attached to CAiSE (Conference on
Advanced Information Systems Engineering).

  The topics addressed by the BPMDS series are focused on business
processes and their IT support. One of the major aims is to discuss
and to learn about concepts and techniques to enhance the ability to
engineer software systems closer the business requirements.

The conference proceedings will be published in a Springer LNBIP
volume (joint with EMMSAD), "Enterprise, Business-Process and
Information Systems Modeling”, as the six last years (LNBIP 29,

SPONSORS:
--------
- Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE).
BPMDS Working Conference is officially linked on an ongoing basis to
the CAiSE conference series).
- International Federation for Information Processing Working Group
8.1 (IFIP WG 8.1).

ABOUT THE BPMDS CONFERENCE:
--------------------------
The topics addressed by the BPMDS series are focused on business
processes and their IT support. This is one of the keystones of
information systems theory beyond short-lived fashions. The continued
interest in this topic on behalf of the IS community is reflected by
the success of the past BPMDS events, and their promotion from a
workshop to a working conference.

The BPMDS series has produced fifteen events from 1998 to 2014. From
2011, BPMDS has become a two-day working conference attached to CAiSE
(Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering). The basic
principles of the BPMDS series:

1. BPMDS serves as a meeting place for researchers and practitioners
in the areas of business development, and business applications
(software) development
2. The aim of the event is mainly discussions, rather than presentations.
3. Each event has a theme that is mandatory for idea papers.
4. Each event's results are, usually, published in a special issue of
an international journal.

The goals, format, and history of BPMDS can be found on the web site:
http://www.bpmds.org/history

BACKGROUND AND AIMS:
-------------------

BPMDS solicits papers related to Business Process Modeling,
Development and Support (BPMDS) in general, using quality as a main
selection criterion. As a working conference, we would like to attract
papers describing mature research, but we still give place to
industrial reports and visionary idea papers. To encourage new and
emerging challenges and research directions in the area of business
process modeling, development and support, we have a unique focus
theme every year.

Papers submitted as idea papers will be required to be of relevance to
the focus theme, thus providing a mass of new ideas around a
relatively narrow but emerging research area.

Full research papers and experience reports are not required to be
directly connected to this theme (they still need to be explicitly
relevant to BPMDS though).

The focus theme for BPMDS'15 idea papers is

Enabling value creation via business process modeling, development and support

More than two decades after Hammer and Champy made the explicit link
between business processes and value, this relationship is still
unclear.

For the 16th edition of the BPMDS conference, we invite the interested
authors to engage, through their idea papers and the discussions
during the two days of BPMDS’2015 in Stockholm, in a deep
discussion with all participants about what is value, how it is
provided and how it is captured through business process modeling,
development and support.

We also welcome research papers that include ideas on how theoretical
results discussed can be used in practice, as well as experience
reports on using theories in practice.

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION:
----------------------
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

Value Creation and BPMDS
- Do projects of business process modeling or development help to
create value directly or indirectly?
- How can value created by BPMDS be assessed and captured?
- Does a BPS (business process support) system always lead to value
creation/capturing (directly or indirectly)?
- What are the relationships between various types of BPS systems (SoS
vs WFMS for instance) and types of value they help to create?
- Does social software facilitate the creation of a different kind of
value than a traditional workflow system?
- What are the barriers to value creation or/and capture from
BP-related projects?
- Are there specific conditions for value creation from BP-related projects?
- Cases where BP-related projects created value
- Cases where BP-projects created no values
- Interactions between Value Creation and BPMDS
- Impact of Value Creation / Co-Creation on Business Process
Life-Cycle: Design, Deployment, Operation and Evaluation.
- Representing requirements of Value Creation
- Value management in business processes
- User integration for value co-creation

Business Process Modeling
- Business process modeling languages, notations and methods
- Multi-perspectives on business process modeling
- Integrating Value into Business Process Modeling
- Representing Value Co-Creation
- Coherence among multi-perspective representations
- Theoretical foundations for analyzing, modeling business processes
- Verification and validation of business process models
- Variability and adaptability of business process models
- Dynamic configuration; modeling by reuse
- Granularity, development of reusable and context-aware components;
modeling for reuse
- Domain specific reference models
- Business process modeling enhanced by social software and social networks

SUBMISSIONS:
-----------
Prospective conference participants are invited to submit a paper that
concerns business process modeling and development, and/or business
process support (development of software dedicated to business
processes). We solicit the papers (both research papers and experience
reports) that contain results worth of discussion. For full research
papers, it means that reported research should be in an advance stage
and a paper includes results and at least partial evaluation.

Thus three kinds of submissions are possible:

(1) Full research papers.

(2) Experience reports, which should follow guidelines in
http://www.bpmds.org/guidelines.

(3) Idea papers related to the focus theme, devoted to completely new
research positions or approaches, in order to face to a generic
situation that arises because of, for instance, new methods and tools
or new types of emerging challenges; the compliance to the focus theme
is mandatory for idea papers, which should describe precisely the
situation and demonstrate the shortcomings of current methods, tools,
ways of reasoning, meta-models, etc.

Papers of all submission types should be of up to 15 pages. Please
follow the LNCS format instructions at
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for all of them.

Papers should be submitted in Adobe PDF format. The results described
must be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. The papers
should be submitted through the conference management system available
at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bpmds2015 .

PUBLICATIONS:
------------
The conference proceedings will be published in a Springer LNBIP
volume (joint with EMMSAD), "Enterprise, Business-Process and
Information Systems Modeling”, as the five previous years (LNBIP
29, LNBIP 50, LNBIP 81, LNBIP 113, LNBIP 147 LNBIP 175). Contributing
authors may find all relevant information at
http://www.springer.com/series/7911 .

After the BPMDS’15 conference, extended versions of the accepted
papers will be considered for publishing in a special issue of an
international journal.

Call for Papers

Third International Workshop on Security and Forensics in
Communication Systems (SFCS 2015), in conjunction with The Twentieth
IEEE Symposium on Computers and

Communications (ISCC 2015)
LARNACA, CYPRUS, July 6, 2015
https://sites.google.com/site/iscc15sfcs/

The ever increasing number of applications, remotely delivered
services, and networked systems have required the need for digital
security. Today, more and more

companies are experiencing security incidents and cybercrimes, by
which attackers could generate fraudulent financial transactions,
commit crimes, perform an

industrial espionage, and disrupt the business processes.

The sophistication and the bordeless nature of the intrusion
techniques used during a security incident, have triggered the need
for developing efficient incident

response plans. In this context, digital forensics has emerged as a
disciplined science allowing to note and collect evidences left on the
compromised system prior

to the incident occurrence, and carry out an analysis to: (a)
understand what occurred; (b) determine the set of exploited security
weaknesses; (c) trace attackers

to their source; (d) study the attackers trends and motives; and (e)
propose a set of optimal countermeasures to stop and mitigate the
effect of the attacks.
The third edition of the international workshop on Security and
Forensics in Communication Systems (SFCS 2015) will be held in
conjunction with the Twentieth IEEE

Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC 2015). It promotes
research and innovative ideas in the realm of security and digital
forensics, and provides a

prominent venue for researchers, scientists, engineers and
practitioners to share their thoughts, exchange ideas, and prospect
future and potential axes of

collaboration. Papers focusing on any aspect of the theory and
practice of security and digital forensic science are solicited. A
large spectrum of advanced topics

are covered, ranging from anti-forensics detection and recovery,
protocols security and forensic in wireless and mobile communication
systems, multimedia security

and forensic content processing, development of novel theories and
techniques of security and forensics analysis and validation, and
forensics in cloud computing and

social networks.

The workshop will act as a forum for discussing open issues, and
presenting original and unpublished research results and innovative
ideas in the realm of security

and digital forensics. We encourage contributions describing
innovative work in the realm of security and digital forensics. Topics
of interest include, but are not

limited to:

- Formal and theoretical techniques of communication security
- Legal and policy issues in security
- Availability, privacy, authentication, anonymity, trust, and access control
- Security aspects in e-services, e-government, e-learning, e-voting,
and m-commerce applications
- Social networks security
- Incident response techniques in network and communication systems
- Mobile security
- Risk analysis and management in communication systems
- Infrastructure protection, and Virtual Private Networks security
- Storage systems protection and forensics
- Physical and Biometric security

- Lightweight forensic techniques
- Large-scale investigations in large networks and Big Data
- Innovative forensic services
- Data visualization in forensic analysis

- Intrusion Detection, incident response, and evidence handling
- Vulnerability analysis and assessment, and analysis of malware
- Techniques for tracking and trace-back of attacks in systems and networks
- Data hiding, extraction, and recovery technique
- Security and Forensics in distributed, virtual, and cloud environment
- Security and forensics in digital healthcare systems and applications
- Forensic and security techniques in wireless and mobile communication systems
- Development of investigation processes and security procedures
- Security and forensic architectures

Submissions must be written in English describing original work, and
should be no more than 8 pages in the IEEE double column proceedings
format including tables,

figures and references. Note that accepted papers up to 6 pages will
be published with no additional charge. Exceeding pages will be
charged an additional fee.

Extended versions of selected best papers will be recommended for
publication in a Special Issue of a prestigious International Journal.

Submitted papers must not substantially overlap papers that have been
published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal,
conference or workshop.

Simultaneous submission of the same work is not allowed. Authors of
accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be presented at
the workshop.

The Workshop Proceedings will be part of the ISCC 2015 Proceedings and

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone had a collection of well written business cases. This is for a module (i.e., not an entire course) in effective business case writing. What I am mainly looking for are business cases (preferably IT, but not necessarily) that are clear and convincing. I am specifically looking for:

- Cases that cut through the technical jargon to explain why a proposal is valid in business terms.
- A variety of cases where the rhetoric isn't necessarily financial. For example, I have a couple of cases from a water management agency which talks about savings of water. Other examples might be cases from hospitals which talk about saving lives or getting faster turnaround in wards. I also want cases with financial rhetoric.
- Preferably where a careful reader will remain convinced. For example, IT development cases should include cost of maintenance, opportunity cost of training and other "hidden" costs when calculating ROI.
- Ideally (but not necessarily) cases with both rational and non-rational appeal. So, while ROI is stated, morale boosting and other intangibles are also cited as benefits.

I've tried the ones available on the Internet and they are pretty bad. For example, in one supposedly exemplar business case, the executive summary had "We recommend option 3" when option 3 isn't described in the summary, only in the text.

Sorry. Just as a followup. By business case, I mean a proposal written to sell a project to upper management. I don't mean a case study as per Harvard or Ivey.

My students have to write one, and I want exemplars to illustrate the ideas to them.

AMCIS 2015 CFP: Mini-Track: Contemporary Issues in Agile Development

Track: Systems Analysis and Design

Peurto Rico, August 13-15, 2015

Agile manifesto, which introduced agile methodologies, is now more than a
decade old. During this period, these methodologies have seen increased
acceptance among software developers. This brings to the fore a number of
research issues?adoption and/or adaptation of agile methods, agile project
management, social aspects of agile development, distributed agile
development, scalability of agile methodologies, and enterprise agility, to
name but a few. The incorporation of myriad practices, particularly those
advocated by lean principles, has only rendered the term "agility" more
nebulous. Prospective research topics include lean and agile practices and
their synergies/differences, and the role of agile/lean principles in
facilitating flexible enterprise architectures. Considering the rapid growth
of agile development practices, the Project Management Institute (PMI)
recently introduced a new certification program focused on agile project
management. This is expected to further consolidate and spread the use of
agile development. Some illustrative project management aspects of agile
development in need of research attention include cost and schedule
estimation/planning, resource allocation, risk management, and change
control management.

This mini-track will provide a forum for researchers to address fundamental
issues regarding agile development practices as well as contemporary topics
raised by its widespread acceptance and use.

Suggested Topics

? Agile project management versus traditional project management

? Knowledge Management in agile development

? "Agile methods in theory" versus "agile methods in practice"

CFP: AMCIS 2015 Mini-Track: Social Media Analytics (Track: Social Computing)

As social media becomes a standard communication and collaboration platform, large amounts of data are generated and publicly available on various platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, blogs, wikis and more. As with other forms of big data a key question to address is how this data can be used to learn about individual and social behaviors, how predictions can be made on various indicators based on social media data, and how can we apply these data to impact platform design and organizational performance. For this mini track on social media analytics we are interested in high quality empirical and conceptual work that addresses these and other related questions.

SUGGESTED TOPICS
- Sources of data in social media
- Data extraction approaches for social media data
- Methods and applications of text analytics
- Organizational impact of social media analytics
- Applications of social media analytics

** SCOPE
------------------------------------------------------------
Stimulating innovation through the introduction of novel IT solutions is by default a multidisciplinary field, certainly in pervasive healthcare. Supporting and solving healthcare problems need holistically combined methods and insights. Aligning a complex ecosystem of stakeholders with different goals, backgrounds and perspectives, such as care delivery (medicine, home care), IT (communication, hardware, software, media), organizational, economic, legal and user perspectives, is one of the main hurdles to be tackled.

Few focus has been paid to the introduction of efficient and effective processes behind this innovation in order to integrate the solution in this complex care and cure ecosystem. Achieving a truly combined approach on research, product development, process design, management, improvement and optimization, and measurement system through key performance indicators (KPIs) when introducing pervasive healthcare systems still proves to be challenging.

This workshop aims to bring together a diverse public on this topic to exchange knowledge and showcase the benefits of process thinking in care & cure environment to discuss case studies, and to develop guidelines on stimulating interdisciplinary cooperation and best practices how to avoid pitfalls.

** Topics
------------------------------------------------------------
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Minitrack:
??
Business Models for the Digital Economy

This minitrack serves as a forum for the presentation and discussion of new
and innovative approaches of business models beyond e-commerce for coping
with the challenges of the digital economy. We consider an economy based on
the digitization of information and the respective information and
communication infrastructure as digital economy. This new type of economy
implies not only technological, but also and especially structural and
process-related challenges and potential. The way in which economic value
is created will change fundamentally in the digital economy and thus
transform the structure of economies and societies.

This evolution will radically alter processes and structures within and
between industries leading to the digital economy. All of these
developments characterize the emerging digital economy and cause new
challenges businesses have to cope with. This clearly will have a major
impact on how business models have to be designed. Therefore this minitrack
addresses all topics concerned with the analysis, design, development,
implementation, and control of future business models for the creation of
economic value in the digital economy from a communication, organizational,
business, economic, and managerial perspective applying a theoretical,
conceptual, or practical approach.

Suggested topics:

CALL FOR PAPERS
2015 Americas Conference on Information Systems
El Conquistador Resort, Puerto Rico, August 13-15, 2015
Track: Social Computing
Mini-track: Social Media within the Organization
================================================================

DESCRIPTION:

Social media technologies such as wikis, forums, blogs, podcasts and online social networks have changed the communication landscape into one based on user-generated content. Because it is changing the way that people create, store and share information, social media is a topic of great importance to future IS research.

Currently, social media research has focused on activity on public sites such as Twitter and Facebook. However, some firms have tried to capitalize on the power of social media by incorporating social media technologies into their internal networks. Because social media has the potential to improve work routines and to even change culture within the organization, industry is interested in the operational and strategic issues involved in its implementation.

The advantages afforded by social media within the organization will not be realized without overcoming challenges. Organizations must evaluate their existing business practices and consider significant changes needed to implement social media successfully. The field of IS research must build a rich understanding of both the opportunities and the challenges presented by social media within the organization. We ask for empirical, theoretical, and conceptual works of any and all methodological approaches.

SUGGESTED TOPICS:

Topics relevant for this mini-track include, but are not limited to:
- Organizational identification
- Organizational citizenship behavior
- Knowledge management
- Workflow in intranet-based social media
- Leader emergence
- Multi-national project management

Submission Deadline:  April 27, 2015
======================================================================

WORKSHOP GOALS
===================
Finding the information or product that matches your needs and preferences
on the Web can be challenging. Modern search engines can help in many
situations, but they are based on one-shot query interactions and limited
with respect to their personalization capabilities. Recommender Systems (RS)
have proved to be helpful tools for various information seeking and
filtering tasks and are nowadays ubiquitous on the Web. The most prominent
classes of such systems are based on the detection of preference patterns in
larger user communities (collaborative filtering) or on the automatic
construction of content-based preference profiles for individual users
(content-based filtering).

For some application domains in e-commerce, relying on such pattern or model
learning approaches alone can be insufficient because explicit and detailed
short term interest or preference profiles are required to determine the
most suitable product. This is for example the case when (a) the products
themselves are configurable and can be tailored to the specific needs of a
user or (b) the selection of the right product is based on user-specified
explicit constraints, e.g., when purchasing a digital camera or smartphone.
Going beyond collaborative and content-based techniques, such
knowledge-based approaches therefore often require more complex user
interfaces which support interactive preference elicitation or explanations
as well as explicitly encoded domain knowledge.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners
working on topics related to the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques
in the areas of recommendation systems, electronic commerce, personalized
web tools, and interactive configurator systems. We are specifically
interested in contributions which aim to combine explicit preference and
constraint models with machine learning techniques.

TOPICS OF INTEREST
===================
We invite original contributions in a variety of areas related to
Recommendation, Configuration and Web Personalization:

* Preference Elicitation and User Modeling: Interactive Elicitation,
Explicit and Implicit Feedback, Social/Semantic Web Mining for
Personalization, Preference Learning, Collaborative and Content-based
Filtering

* User Interaction: Conversational Approaches, Explanations, Constraint
Relaxation, Context-Aware Approaches, Personalized Information Filtering

* Knowledge Representation and Reasoning: Constraint Programming, Preference
Handling, Machine Learning, Satisfiability Testing, Logic-based Approaches,
Developing, Testing and Debugging of Knowledge Bases

* Evaluation Methodology, Metrics, and Case Studies; Implementation
Architectures

Keywords:
* Recommender Systems
* Product Configuration and Mass Customization
* Constraint Reasoning
* Preference Handling and Preference Learning
* Web Personalization

Mini-Track: Strategic Information Systems Evaluation
Mini-Track Co-Chairs: Timo K. K?k?l?, University of Jyv?skyl?, Finland,
Lorie Obal, Southern California Edison, USA

Mini-Track Description

Problems with information systems (IS) include overly lengthy development times, high implementation and maintenance costs and disappointing returns on investments. Evaluation of information systems is increasingly important due to high stakes in information systems (IS) dependence, cost and return on investment (ROI). IS evaluation is challenging due to factors of IS complexity and difficulties in defining meaningful measures that account for socio-technical issues and unpredictable IS benefits. Moreover, IS evaluation research often focuses on the organizations and end users deploying information systems. Yet, information systems are increasingly designed and used in complex ecosystems where all stakeholders, including vendor organizations and their employees, are expected to create value for themselves, their clients, and the ecosystems while minimizing waste. IS evaluation methods and their relevant combinations that enable all relevant stakeholders to measure and create value as well as minimize waste together in the ecosystems are especially important for tackling the root causes of problems such as budget and schedule overruns and lower than expected ROI. For example, functional size measurement is a well-known methodology that both vendors and clients can use for pricing IS development and maintenance projects in $/function point, evaluating the earned value in the projects by the number of function points delivered to clients, and assessing the quality of information systems and making investment decisions to improve quality (e.g., the number of defects per function point). Other methodologies are also of interest.

Call for Papers
This mini-track will focus on Information Systems Evaluation with a goal of identifying factors to help measure, justify, and steer IS development and deployment initiatives, including investment decisions. The objective of this track is to publish research on concepts, methods, frameworks and case studies in IS evaluation.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

? IS evaluation methods for facilitating the co-creation of value and the elimination of waste by all relevant stakeholders (e.g., strategic product line roadmapping, requirements prioritization, and release management)

? Methods for pre and post IS deployment appraisal

? Qualitative and Quantitative Evaluation Methods

? Capital Budgeting and Financial Appraisal of IS Investments

? Socio-technical aspects of appraisal methods

? Organizational, Political, Cultural, Legal, Regulatory, and other barriers to IS evaluation

?         Macro-economic, Industry-wide, or Ecosystem-specific Assessment of IS

?         IS ROI measures

? Cost/Benefit and Risk Analyses and Management of integrated enterprise systems or applications

? Empirical studies are also solicited, which evaluate specific types of IS such as:

o   Collaborative Systems

o   Customer Relationship Management Systems

o   Decision Support Systems

o   eLearning systems

o   Enterprise Systems

o   Healthcare Information Systems

o   Knowledge Management Systems

o   Project (Portfolio) Management Systems

o   Product Lifecycle Management Systems

Mini-Track: Information Systems Strategy and Implementation
Mini-Track Chair: D. Lance Revenaugh, Montana Tech University

Mini-Track Description

Unquestionably, information systems (IS), along with its supporting information technology (IT), continue to increase in importance in nearly all organizations. As organizations scramble to develop and apply IT in new ways, the need to identify and implement an IS strategic plan becomes increasingly critical.
To date, however, implementations of IS strategies have not had high success rates. Though this has been true for years, much continues to be published on how to develop an IS strategy. Comparatively little research focuses on implementation. It is the purpose of this mini-track to focus on ways in which organizations effectively implement IS/IT strategies in their organizations.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

* Implementation issues considered during strategy development

* Integration of IT planning and strategy with business strategy

* Enablers of and/or inhibitors to IS Strategy success

* Implementation of any organizational strategy that is significantly impacted by IS/IT

* Research, case studies, empirical studies of IS/IT Strategy implementation

Mini-Track: Impact of IT on Strategic Innovation & Competitive Advantage

Mini-Track Co-Chairs: Abhishek Kathuria, University of Hong Kong, kathuria at hku.edu

Mini-Track Description

IT is emerging as a vital element in enabling innovations in strategy, business models and management practice. Several examples affirm the importance of exploring the impact of IT on strategic innovation. For example, IT has enabled new business models for firms such as Amazon, Netflix, Uber and Airbnb. IT has facilitated service-oriented innovations in communication services, such as providing audio, video, interactive and social modes of communication through mobile Apps and other tools such as WeChat and WhatsApp. IT has enabled the emergence and sustained success of new business models based around the sharing economy and crowdsourcing (e.g., Agarwal et al. 2010; Rai and Sambamurthy 2006). IT has facilitated new innovations in digitized access and delivery of services and goods. Furthermore, IT has enabled information access and exchange in several sectors, including health care, education and travel. Likewise, IT can also facilitate new product and service development via its capabilities to enhance knowledge creation (e.g., Kleis et al. 2012). These business model innovations, IT-enabled service-oriented innovations, digitized product and process innovations and associated information capabilities are the result of strategic innovation at the firm level. Thus, IT enabled strategies have emerged as a business imperative to foster innovation and competitive strategy in recent times.

Call for Papers
Despite the developments in practice around the role of IT in enabling several forms of innovation and innovative strategies, literature examining the role of information systems in this process is sparse. This mini-track solicits studies that examine the nuances associated with leveraging information technology for strategic innovation. Although the focus is on studies at the firm level, studies at the individual, team, group, or industry levels are also welcome. The main focus of the studies would be to explore how IT enables any or several innovative strategies for firm performance. This mini-track serves as a venue for a wide range of research methodologies, including empirical, case study, conceptual and simulation research.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

* How IT-enabled strategies lead to firm performance.

* How IT strategy and firm strategy interact to result in value creation for firms.

* Different facets of IT-enabled innovative strategies: IT-enabled service innovation, IT-enabled business innovation, IT-enabled business model innovation, and IT-enabled co-innovation.

* Role of IT to manage, augment, or shape innovation.

* Role of IT in new product development and process innovation.

Mini-Track: IT Governance and Enterprise Architectures

Mini-Track Chairs: Edimara M. Luciano, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, eluciano at pucrs.br
Matthias Goeken, University of Applied Sciences of Deutsche Bundesbank, matthias.goeken at bundesbank.de
Carsten Felden, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, carsten.felden at bwl.tu-freiberg.de

Mini-Track Description
In a context of a stronger relationship between IT and business, IT governance is a way to establish transparent control mechanisms that can drive and monitor the alignment of business and IT, company and IT performance as well the desirable behavior related to IT use. The literature and the organizations' day-by-day show various concepts or statements on IT Governance. Regardless of that, the IT governance approach involves some aspects, e.g.: a) the way that the company board manages IT; b) the decision making related to investments and the concern about their return; c) the effective use of IT resources; d) the decision rights specification and the definition of roles and responsibilities; e) the focus on comprehension and meeting the organizational necessities; f) the study of what organizational arrangement is more adequate to better support the organizational goals related to IT; g) the alignment between IT governance and corporate governance objectives.

There is a common point among the various viewpoints or approaches on IT Governance, namely the IT decision making. Provided that IT has an important role, IT decisions have an impact in the whole organizational environment. Therefore, having decision-making systematized processes is important to increase the effectiveness of the process. It involves IT infrastructure and architecture on the premise that IT is expensive and fast changing. It is essential that the enterprise architecture be a long term one and provide a background to the business for a long time. It also involves the development, adoption, and use of IT, which should reflect the strategic positioning of the company.

The frameworks of IT governance have no unique prescription. It is a set of processes to each organization because of the business context and intrinsic factors such as culture, leadership style, values and goals. Therefore, IT governance must be from the organization and to the organization, without a restrictive view that it refers exclusively to IT.

Call for Papers
In this context, this minitrack has the intention to discuss the relationships among these issues by gathering conceptual, empirical or research in progress to show how and why the phenomenon occurs on a day-to-day basis in terms of structure, processes, strategies, relational mechanisms, and people involved, such as the subjects cited below:

*        IT governance models, including the results of adoption of different models in organizations;

*        Enterprise architectures aiming a long term IT;

*        Investments decision making and return on investments;

*        Definition of roles and responsibilities, including the results of their adoption;

*        Relationship among IT governance and architecture, strategic alignment, Corporate Governance and the comprehension of the organizational necessities;

*        Relationship with risk management, outsourcing and Information Security;

*        Cultural aspects and their relationships with IT governance practices or mechanisms;

*        IT Governance practices effectiveness;

*        IT strategy and impact on IT governance and architecture;

*        The role of stakeholders, shareholders and CIOs in the process of IT governance practices adoption and architecture;

*        Best practice and frameworks like COBIT, ITIL, ISO 38.000, TOGAF;

*        Case studies which help to understand current practices in companies governing their IT;

* New methods, practices, models and approaches in the realm of IT governance and enterprise architecture.

The mini-track will discuss the state of the art of methodological support, current practices, and related IT governance topics with a holistic focus and will debate new approaches to support IT governance. In addition, it is intended to analyze new challenges and empirical findings concerning the mentioned topics.

****************************************************************
It gives me a great pleasure to present this third and fourth issue combined16.3-4 of 2014. The contents of this issue are: Editorial Preface article by Drs. David Paper, Zsolt Ugray, and Jeffrey Johnson; Research article by Drs. Ling Zhu, Sherry Thatcher and Matt Thatcher; Teaching Case article by Dr. Song-Kyoo Kim; Expert Opinion report by Dr. Mahesh Raisinghani; and Book Review by Dr. Richard Platt. Summary information of these items is as follows.

Drs. David Paper, Zsolt Ugray, and Jeffrey Johnson in their editorial preface article titled, "Mega Data Value Creation: A Roadmap to Success," focus on big data and ensuing data analytics. They emphasize that the way data creation, consumption, and storage is increasing exponentially, 'Big' does not capture the size - 'Mega Data' is a more appropriate term.[1] They propose a roadmap built upon a four-part action plan. Part one deals with enhancing the customer experience. Part two deals with empowering internal data scientists. Part three deals with leadership who is responsible for creating schemes to leverage Mega Data into an efficient and effective manner toward a viable value proposition. Part four deals with outsourcing Mega Data analytics, which may be very complex and difficult because of data access issues, data ownership, lack of business knowledge, and threats to intellectual property (IP).

The research article is titled, "The Institutional Environment for B2B E-commerce Usage: Towards an Understanding in the Chinese Context." This article leverages new institutional economics (NIE) theory to examine whether and how four facets of the institutional environment -- industrial pressure, governmental support, legal adequacy, and national culture compatibility -- affect Business-to-Business (B2B) e-commerce usage.

The teaching case article is titled, "Com2uS Mobile Game Development." Through the two mobile game development cases (Action Puzzle Family and Tiny Farm), students will learn the pros and cons of the waterfall and agile development standard process models, in order to select a suitable development process for planning and designing modern mobile game software, and be able to discuss the fast changing nature of mobile game industry.

The Expert Opinion report probes into the experience and expertise of Jonathan J. Overton, who is currently Director of Program Management Office in the Cook Children's Hospital located in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Overton has extensive experience in Project Management in general and also Project Management Offices (PMOs) Management. He has spent the last 14 years leading PMOs in the Healthcare industry. Jonathan focuses on building PMOs and improving delivery through a robust service-centric model. His successes include implementing projects (subject to constraints), and project audit programs to improve delivery at a 92%+ level of achievement; and estimating project completion hours within 10% of actual hours. Jonathan has overseen portfolios consisting of over 200+ projects valued at over $225M. His success has led to recognition in a case study by Gartner, the leading research organization for Information Technology. In addition, he has presented at several universities. Jonathan is an active member of the Society for Information Management and serves as a board member on the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of Overseeing Communications. Questions posed by the interviewer are: (a) Does the baseline of proprietary methodologies allow for a project-management oriented determination of resource allocation as a supporting factor to the cost/benefit effort with proprietary elements?; (b) Is the top-down or bottom-up approach introduced as a concurrent phase that pays attention to the organization's infrastructure or during execution/monitoring & control/closing phase of the project cycle?; (c) When is Agile methodology the right approach?; (d) What are your thoughts when a newly implemented method or process like agile becomes routine and the initial gains taper off?; (e) What are some key lessons that you would like to share in the context of the senior management's influence on project outcomes? (f) What are your thoughts on this statement - "Project Managers who increase their leadership deliver projects that are better aligned to strategy and help change an organization's DNA"?; (g) How would you inculcate cultural sensitivity among global project team members?; (h) In order to minimize the scope creep that happens in IT led projects, what area of management should take the lead to
Manage this?

Book review report provides a detailed critique of 2014 book titled, "Business unintelligence Insight and Innovation Beyond Analytics and Big Data," authored By Dr. Barry Devlin and published by Technics Publications from New Jersey. The book review can be summarized as follows.

"There are two fundamental and recurring models in Devlin's development. Both models are totally congruous with the foundations of information systems. The first model, called the IDEAL deals with the relationships between people, process, and information. Devlin starts out his IDEAL framework by putting processes between people and information Devlin chose a subset of the characteristics of these three levels as the terms for the IDEAL acronym: Integrated - within and across each layer (people, process, information) a unity of thought and purpose; all aspects of this environment must link seamlessly together; Distributed - each layer consists of a concept space with diverse attributes of equal importance, individual independence, and mutual dependence; no single central control point; Emergent - this is a mathematically and socially chaotic/complex environment, the characteristics of which cannot be predicted or calculated in advance; Adaptive - the architecture is sufficiently adaptive to adjust and take advantage of changing business needs and technical capabilities without re-architecting; Latent - the conceptual architecture in not in a form that can be directly implemented; it is a guide for business and IT thought and conversation about what is desired and possible. The second framework introduced by Devlin is what he calls the REAL architecture: Realistic - implementing this architecture can begin today with existing technology and its full extent is achievable with tools and techniques that can be expected within a few years; Extensible - the functions and features of the biz-tech ecosystem are open to extension and expansion to allow technology evolution; Actionable - the actions and approaches required of the business and IT are clearly identified at a high level and can easily be extrapolated to lower levels of detail; Labile - the architecture is flexible enough to allow changes in business needs as the biz-tech ecosystem evolves."

The new publisher, in line with the ongoing trends, has decided to publish this journal online only. The website to find all JITCAR issues is: http://www.tandfonline.com/utca. Furthermore, effective August 1, all authors and reviewers will start using Routledge's online manuscript submission and reviewing system http://www.editorialmanager.com/jitcar/. I urge all our current and future authors and reviewers to familiarize themselves with this system.
I hope you will enjoy reading all items in this issue. With best regards,

Sincerely

These three components will be reviewed as a package; the journal's decision to publish the case will be determined by the quality of the case itself and the accompanying research and teaching notes.

Review Process: Each suitable article is double blind-reviewed by three members of the editorial review board. A final recommendation is made by the Editor-in-Chief or anyone of the two senior associate editors in consultation with an Associate Editor. If a revision is recommended, the revised paper is sent for a final approval to the original Associate Editor.

Call for Manuscripts: The journal encourages manuscript submissions from authors all over the world, from academia, government, and industry. The journal will also include reviews of cutting edge IT books that have bearing on the journal's mission. Practitioner input will be regularly solicited from time-to-time through the industry editor(s) of JITCA. To utilize cutting edge IT, authors are strongly encouraged to make their submissions electronically to the editor-in-chief or one of the two senior associate editors by attaching file(s) in appropriate format.

Style: Submitted manuscripts must be written in the APA (American Psychological Association) editorial style. Footnotes are not allowed. Endnotes should be kept to a minimum; instead the material should be incorporated in the body of the paper. References should be listed in alphabetical order. The suggested size of the manuscript is 20 pages (excluding references, tables, and figures). The manuscript should be typed double-spaced.
JITCAR 16.2, 2014: From Editor's Desk

First, let me repeat a great news. Starting February 1, 2014 -- Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group has taken over as the new publisher of JITCAR. T&F has been in existence since 1796 (over 200 years) and publishes over 2000 journals. Here is a relevant excerpt from Press Release by the new publisher on February 11, 2014.

"Routledge Journals Extends its Library & Information Science Coverage
Taylor & Francis Group is pleased to announce that three titles, Journal of Global Information Technology Management; Journal of Information Technology Case and Application Research and Journal of Information Privacy & Security, previously published by Ivy League Publishing, are now to be published under the Routledge imprint. Routledge, the largest global publisher in Social Sciences is committed to supporting research in the important fields of Library & Information Science and Information Systems. According to Tracy Roberts, Editorial Director for the area, these three journals will facilitate development of T& F's portfolio in a research area that is becoming increasingly diverse. Pankaj Palvia, President of Ivy League Publishing, commented that "After having managed the journals for a number of years, I feel that transferring ownership of the journals to Taylor & Francis has been the right move as this change will provide the necessary impetus to have these industry leading journals move to their next level of industry acceptance." Taylor & Francis Group partners with researchers, scholarly societies, universities and libraries worldwide to bring knowledge to life. As one of the world's leading publishers of scholarly journals, books, eBooks and reference works our content spans all areas of Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Technology. From our network of offices in Oxford, Philadelphia, Melbourne, Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo, Stockholm, New Delhi and Johannesburg, Taylor & Francis staff provide local expertise and support to our editors, societies and authors and tailored, efficient customer service to our library colleagues."

It gives me a great pleasure to present this second issue 16.2 of 2014. The contents of this issue are: Editorial Preface article by Drs. Steven Gordon, Roger Blake and G. Shankaranarayanan; Research article by Dr. Rajesh Mirani; Teaching Case article by Drs. Wu He and Yong Chen; Expert Opinion report by Dr. Daniel Peak; and Book Review by Dr. Vijay Vemuri. Summary information of these items is as follows.
Drs. Steven Gordon, Roger Blake and G. Shankaranarayanan in their editorial preface article titled, "An Agenda for Case-Based Research," focus on the need for conducting case research into several IS research areas. The first paragraph of introduction to this article summarizes well the goal of the article.
"Let us face it. As individuals, only a few things influence our research agendas. We tend to focus on one or two research streams where we have had previous publishing success, we explore new topics based on what is hot, and perhaps we respond to calls from co-authors or other acquaintances. In addition, for case-based research, opportunity trumps all other factors. Since it is never easy to get full access to processes or people in an organization, a perceptive researcher jumps at the chance to take advantage of conducting a case study at an organization to explore in depth into a research domain of interest. . While this approach makes sense for individuals, it behooves us as a research community to set priorities that are not wholly opportunistic or personal. But, how should a community such as ours set its research priorities? One way is to express and perhaps debate them in outlets such as JITCAR where case-based IT researchers are likely to read."

The research article is titled, "In Pursuit of Institutional Legitimation: Structuration of an Offshoring Decision." This article analyzes rationale for offshoring decisions utilizing structuration and institutional theories. The abstract below sums it up.

"This paper applies structuration theory and institutional theory to analyze the organizational dynamics behind a financial services company's decision to initiate IT services offshoring. The analysis finds the decision to have been an emergent one, crystallizing from interactions between upper management's actions and an evolving structural context. Further, their actions were driven more by a legitimation-oriented desire to adhere to various institutional norms rather than purely rational considerations. These findings of isomorphism question the notion that offshoring decisions result from straightforward objectives such as cost savings or quality enhancement. Particularly under uncertainty, they may be subtly shaped by institutional influences in antecedent contexts. The implication is that the planning, execution, and evaluation of offshored projects must take into account the dynamic imperatives embedded in these contexts, and not be anchored solely to static expressions of short-term objectives."

The teaching case research article is titled, "Using Blog Mining as an Analytical Method to Study the Use of Social Media by Small Businesses." This article explains the usefulness of Blog Mining as a cost effective tool for extracting useful information from blogs about small businesses' use of social media. Summary of this article is the following abstract.

"The growth in popularity of blogs opens up new opportunities for conducting information studies. Due to its capability of processing large amount of text data effectively, blog mining can be an effective method for gaining insights into a given topic. In this paper, we used blog mining to analyze online blog posts related to social media use by small businesses. This study identified seven relevant themes and found that blog mining is a promising method for understanding emerging Internet-based phenomena. The paper also lists some tools for blog mining, discusses the limitations of blog mining, and provides suggestions for overcoming these limitations."

The Expert Opinion report probes into the experience and expertise of Dr. David Kroenke in the areas of teaching and research; in 1991 the International Association of Information Systems named him Computer Educator of the Year; in 2009, he was named Educator of the Year by the Association of Information Technology Professionals-Education Special Interest Group (AITP-EDSIG); his textbook Database Processing was first published in 1977 and is now in its 13th edition; he has published many other textbooks, including Database Concepts, 5th ed. (2012) (with David Auer), Using MIS, 8th Edition (2014), Experiencing MIS, 6th ed. (2014), MIS Essentials 4th Edition (2014), and Processes, Systems, and Information, 2nd Edition (2014) (with Earl McKinnery). Questions posed by the interviewer are: (a) What are some of your current major projects? (b) What's happening to publishers? (c) what got you started writing textbooks? (d) What motivates you to take on a new textbook project? (e) How has IT changed since you first started in the industry? (f) Was the adoption of IT by business a smooth and gradual transition? (g) What is the difference between data and information? (h) What makes a particular technology succeed and another one to fail? (i) What happened to your product Salsa, the one that implemented the semantic object model? (j) Has Social Media changed our society? (j) Do you believe the IT jobs outlook in this country will continue to improve?
Book review report provides a detailed critique of 2014 book titled, "The Second Machine Age:
Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies co-authored By Erik Brynjolfsson, and Andrew McAfee. This book made it to the York Times Science Best Sellers list. The book review can be summarized as follows.

"The continuing theme of the book is that despite immense advances in the digital technologies, humans have three distinct advantages over computers and information technologies: 1) ideation (coming up with new ideas and concepts), 2) large-frame pattern recognition, and 3) complex communication. These advantages are expected to continue into the foreseeable future...... Unlike many purely science fiction-type prognostication books, the authors concentrate on the economics of the digital age. The issues tackled involve such staples of economic debates as unemployment, GDP, national income accounting, and income and wealth inequalities."

The new publisher, in line with the ongoing trends, has decided to publish this journal online only. The website to find all JITCAR issues of the last 17 years is: http://www.tandfonline.com/utca. Furthermore, effective August 1, 2014 all authors and reviewers will start using Routledge's online manuscript submission and reviewing system http://www.editorialmanager.com/jitcar/. I urge all our current and future authors and reviewers to familiarize with this system.
I hope you will enjoy reading all items in this issue. With best regards,
Sincerely
Dr. Shailendra Palvia

Dear colleagues,

Please consider visiting Stockholm in June 2015 and participating in

1st International Workshop on Socio-Technical Perspective in IS
development (STPIS'15)
planned for 9th of June 2015

The main */purpose /*of the workshop is to arrange */discussions /*on
using a socio-technical perspective in IS development, the long term
goal being to make this workshop a/*meeting place for the community of
IS researchers and practitioners*/ interested in the socio-technical
approach.

The discussions will start with a keynote by Prof. Ian Sommerville on:
"/*Designing software for a million users: it?s not about the technology*/"

The workshop is attached to CAiSE'15 conference
(http://caise2015.dsv.su.se/)

Full description see at http://stpis2015.blogs.dsv.su.se/

Short description is presented below
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite that a socio-technical perspective has been around for over a
half century, it is often forgotten in the Information Systems (IS)
discourse today. Consequently, many ?new approaches? appear to reflect
on IS systems problems, such as modern IT systems poorly adjusted to the
external or/and internal environment (e.g. market, organizational
culture) of organizations in which they are (to be) deployed. We
strongly believe that it is high time the social-technical perspective
took its proper place in IS research, practice and teaching.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

     Case studies using socio-technical approach
     Information system design using socio-technical approach
     Socio-technical comparative studies of technology/IS adoption
     Socio-technical analysis, design, development and integration of
     ? health care systems
     ? crisis management systems
     ? information security management systems
     ? learning systems
     ? privacy enhanced technology
     Societal Security from a socio-technical perspective
     Ethnographic and Anthropological aspects of IS design and adoption
     IT business alignment from a socio-technical perspective

We invite submissions of short and long papers and multi-media materials
in the following categories:

     Position papers
     Idea papers
     Experience reports
     Research papers
     Multi-media. Besides papers, we accept submissions in form of
multi-media materials, for example, recorded video or animated
presentation, describing industrial experience of using socio-technical
perspective for IS analysis or development. In case of acceptance, an
extended abstract is published in the workshop proceedings, while the
multi-media material itself or a link to it is placed on the workshop site.

The deadline for paper submission is fast approaching. Please consider submitting your paper to the Business Analytics for Organizational Performance Management Mini-track

Call for Papers: AMCIS 2015, August 13-15, 2015, Puerto Rico

Mini-track Title: Business Analytics for Organizational Performance Management

Track: Business Analytics, Big Data, and Knowledge Management (SIGDSA)

Description:

The goal of business analytics (BA) is to summarize massive amounts of disparate corporate and customer data into succinct information that can help management better understand their business processes, make informed decisions, and measure and improve organizational performance. BA can provide managers with the ability to integrate enterprise-wide data into metrics that link specific objectives to the performance of different business units. In today's hypercompetitive environment, accurate real-time BA metrics are even more critical for measuring and enhancing organizational performance. Many technologies contribute to BA solutions, including databases, data warehouses, data marts, analytic processing, social analytics, and data mining, among others. BA needs to acquire data from multiple platforms and provide ubiquitous access. This requirement to leverage so-called "big data" presents numerous managerial challenges. This mini-track aims to promote innovative research in the BA domains of organizational performance measurement and improvement.

Suggested Topics:

  * Real-time business metrics for performance measurement
  * Using BA to support the "balanced scorecard"
  * Developing the warehouse to support "digital dashboards"
  * Critical BA success factors for management control
  *   Analytical processing
  *   Techniques for summarizing data
  * Assessing organizational performance using BA metrics
  * Information extraction and report generation
  *   Real-time decision making
  *   Online analytical processing (modeling)
  * Business performance management (BPM) and improvement
  * Economic analysis of business analytics
  *   Business analytics strategies
  *   Business analytics performance metrics
  *   Business analytics implementation management
  * BA governance, implementation, and management
  *   Vigilant information systems
  * Leveraging big data for performance improvement
  * Summarizing and visualizing organizational performance metrics
  * Social analytics on organizational performance management
  *   Predictive analytics

Call for papers

 21st Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS'15) August 13-15, 2015, Puerto Rico
Submission deadline Feb 25th

Track: Human Capital in Information Systems (SIGLEAD)
Track chairs: James Denford, Paola Gonzalez

Minitracks: IS Leadership Development & IS professional Development
Minitrack chairs: Jennifer Gerow, Paola Gonzalez

IS professionals - whether leaders at the CIO level, IS project and line staff or external professional service providers - are the human dimension of the discipline and therefore issues surrounding IS practice are of enduring concern to IS academics and practitioners alike. Mini-tracks cover the range of the track interest (divided between mini-tracks covering IS managers/leaders and IS professionals/workers) and authors will be encouraged to submit both conceptual and empirical papers that employ a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

*Track*: Design Science Track
Minitrack: The use of DSR in Post-graduate studies and supervision in IS

The adoption of DSR as a research approach whenever artefacts are developed
within IS has seen substantial growth in recent years. This trend was also
found in post-graduate studies where students are involved in the
development of an artefact and then adopt DSR in their studies. Several
authors such as Vijay Vaishnavi, Bill Keuchler, Al Hevner and Shirley
Gregor published on the topic of Design Science research. However, using DSR in
postgraduate studies is a relatively new way of conducting research and the
presentation of a DSR study within dissertations and theses poses unique
challenges and opportunities.

This track explores the techniques, opportunities, challenges and best
practices
adopted for both students and supervisors when adopting and using DSR
within post-graduate
studies. We invite submissions for the use of DSR in Post-graduate studies
and supervision in IS mini-track that discusses relevant topics including, but
not limited to, the following:
? Design Science Research as a research approach in post-graduate
studies;
?           Writing up a DSR study in a thesis or dissertation;
?           Mixed-method research and DSR as research approach;
?           Case Studies and best practices for post-graduate DSR studies;
?           Evaluation of Design Science Research;
?           Science of Design and Design Theory;
?           Research philosophies and DSR;
? The artefact within a DSR post-graduate study.

The SEM boot camp at BYU was successful enough last year that I'm planning
on doing it again this year, the third year running. I hope you'll consider
sending your doctoral students and/or junior faculty to this three-day
workshop. I'll take raw data from a survey all the way through to testing a
complex theory using AMOS and SPSS, including data screening, EFA, CFA,
Mediation, Moderation, and all that those entail (model fit, validity,
etc.). If there is time, I will also discuss SmartPLS, Logistic Regression,

Dear Colleagues,

Just a week left for paper submissions.

Final Call for Papers:

AMCIS 2015 EGOV Mini-Track: Trends in Smart City Initiatives: Opportunities and Challenges

Main Track: e-Government
Mini Track: Trends in Smart City Initiatives: Opportunities and Challenges
Puerto Rico, August 13-15, 2015
Mini-track Description:

The e-government era has enabled public administrations to become more efficient and effective through the delivery of digital solutions and services. While the early emphasis of e-government led service transformation was highly focused on using technology to deliver improved and personalized services for citizens, more recent efforts have been focused on grassroots level impacts that are enabled through smart use of technology. In this context, the emphasis has somewhat shifted from a service delivery focus to a smart ICT-infrastructure based eco-system that is sustainable. The application of ICT in the context of future cities is indicated by the notion of smart city. Nevertheless, the smart city concept goes beyond the use of ICT for better resource use and less emissions. The notion of smart city is emerging as a key strategy to tackle the problems generated by the urban population growth and rapid development. Smart city innovations are evolving as new approaches to holistic management of cities' physical, socio-economic, environmental, transportation and political assets across all urban domains, typically supported by ICT. An effective smart city initiative is one that brings together technology, government and society to enable a smarter economy, mobility, environment, people, living and governance. However, as the smart city phenomenon itself is still emerging, the concept is being applied all over the world with different terminologies, context and meanings.

This mini track invites work that frames smart city initiatives and explores its impact from a social, economic, technical or organizational perspective. Relevant topics may include areas that discuss smart city initiatives such as energy efficient cities, intelligent transport systems, smart communications and networks etc. In addition to empirical studies, theoretical and conceptual papers will be considered. The objective of the mini-track is to encourage research that can be useful to those engaged in smart city initiatives.

Suggested Topics:
Contributed papers may deal with, but are not limited to:

* Role of ICT in smart city initiatives

* Role of Policy Makers in smart city initiatives

* The development, implementation, control and maintenance of smart city initiatives

*         Transformational smart city initiatives

* Different process, information systems and technology integration approaches used in smart city initiatives

* Governance, integrated service delivery and reengineering of smart cities

* Barriers to awareness, adoption and diffusion of smart city initiatives

*         Evaluation of case studies

CALL FOR PAPERS
AMCIS 2015, Puerto Rico, August 13-15, 2015
http://amcis2015.aisnet.org/
Track: Human Computer Interaction (HCI)
Mini-track: Negative Cognitions about Information Systems
================================================================

DESCRIPTION:

There is an increasingly persistent dichotomy in the way that emerging IS-enabled patterns for work and collaboration are affecting users. The systems enable vast improvements in processes and decisions; however, they also lead to negative cognitions such as stress, frustration, addiction, distrust, and information overload. Given the ubiquity of IS use, the impacts of these detrimental conditions are potentially pervasive.

The objective of this mini-track is to develop theoretical insight and understanding on HCI topics and issues that address this "troubling" side of IS use. Submissions addressing all aspects of this topic are welcome. We welcome conceptual, theoretical or empirical research papers. We particularly welcome papers that apply theories and perspectives from different disciplines (e.g., theories of stress and deviant behavior from psychology, information overload and interruption from information science, and work-life balance from industrial management) to examine various aspects of this phenomenon.

POTENTIAL TOPICS:
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Implications for design of systems and interfaces regarding:
Conceptualizations of troubling or negative interactions between IS and users, such as interruptions, information overload, constant connectivity to work-related information processing, negative emotions, and addiction to IS use.

2. Implications for design of systems and interfaces regarding:
Difficulties in learning how to use constantly changing technologies and applications, navigating requirements for security, and managing data deluge.

3. Implications for design of systems and interfaces regarding:
Outcomes from the above interactions such as stress and anxiety, difficulty in concentrating, multitasking, user dissatisfaction, effects on productivity and performance, disruption of work-life balance, and over-dependence on IS.

4. Implications for design of systems and interfaces regarding:
Use of IS in home contexts by outlier populations in terms of demographics such as age and wellness, e.g. managing apps on smartphones and tablets, and associated issues of personal data security, family well-being, and technology embedded-ness of home processes.

IMPORTANT DATES AND SUBMISSION INFORMATION:

- Submissions due February 25, 2015
- NOTE: Submissions to this mini-track should be made to the "Attitude Adjustment" mini-track within the Human Computer Interaction track on the submission site (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/amcis2015).

RESEARCH FELLOW: University of Michigan School of Information Job Summary

The School of Information (in connection and collaboration with School of
Public Health and Urban and Regional Planning Program at the Taubman
College of Architecture and Urban Planning) are offering a postdoctoral
fellow position in the multidisciplinary area of "big data and community
health."

The burden of negative health outcomes is, unfortunately, differential in
the United States (US). Living in an area in which a large proportion of
residents are socio-economically disadvantaged exerts an independent,
negative effect on individual health status. Initiatives to reduce such
neighborhood-based health disparities, or "neighborhood effects", require
access to meaningful, timely, and actionable information regarding the
health of different groups, and factors that influence their health. Yet,
there are key gaps in the country's population health information
infrastructure, including a lack of accepted measures of community health
and the fact that many existing data are not fully exploited nor
effectively linked. In part, these gaps are due to the challenges of
gathering and analyzing large, diverse, dynamic, and relevant data sets.
The project will address these challenges by leveraging emerging "big data"
sources such as social media sites and citizen-created maps, while linking
new sources with existing health data sets.
Responsibilities*

The postdoctoral fellow will help lead the efforts to: 1) Collect, process,
and analyze geo-tagged social media data to measure neighborhood
characteristics that are related to health disparities; 2) Compare social
media measures with other existing data sets; and 3) Combine machine
learning and spatial statistical techniques to explore and model the
relationship between neighborhood characteristics and health behaviors.

This position will fund a researcher who will have the opportunity to work
alongside an interdisciplinary team of collaborators to develop "big data
and community health" as an area of research. The team of investigators
includes: Dr. Tiffany Veinot (School of Information and Department of
Health Behavior and Health Education, School of Public Health), Dr. Robert
Goodspeed (Urban and Regional Planning Program, Taubman College of
Architecture and Urban Planning), Dr. Veronica Berrocal (Department of
Biostatistics), Dr. Daniel Romero (School of Information and Department of
Computer Science, College of Engineering) and Dr. Phillipa Clarke
(Institute for Social Research). The postdoctoral fellow will be an equal
member of the interdisciplinary research group.

The postdoctoral fellow will be expected not only to conduct independent
research, but also to collaborate actively in the aforementioned research
project with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate research
assistants. This responsibility includes regular communication and
coordination with the project team. The postdoc will also be expected to
contribute substantially to publications related to "big data and community
health," acting as first author on some and as a secondary author on others.

The postdoctoral fellow will have shared office space at the University of
Michigan and may have the opportunity to teach one course in the School (to
be negotiated with the appropriate dean).
Required Qualifications*

*A Ph.D. in a related area completed by the position start date. The ideal
candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics,
Information, Geography, Public Health or a related field.
*A strong background and experience with machine learning, data mining,
and/or spatial statistic methods.
*Programming experience and comfort with handling and analyzing big data
sets.
*Motivation and initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability
to work independently as well as in a team.
*A desire to learn and contribute to the field of Public Health is
preferred.
How to Apply

Please apply on this site by uploading just your resume.

In addition, applicants should submit the following materials
electronically to Professor Tiffany Veinot:

Email tveinot at umich.edu one PDF file which includes:
1. A statement of interest describing your relevant background and skills
2. A current curriculum vitae/resume
3. The name and contact information for three references. (One reference
should be your doctoral advisor.) Letters of recommendation will only be
solicited from finalists.
4. Two publications or other writing samples.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled.
