The Human Interface Technology Laboratory NZ (HIT Lab NZ) develops and commercialises emerging technologies that improves human-computer interaction and by doing so unlocks the power of human intelligence. Current research activity is focused on a number of areas including Augmented Reality, Visualization, Next Generation Teleconferencing, Applied Interaction Design, Human-Robot Interaction, and other emerging areas such as Tangible User Interfaces and Perceptual Computing. The HIT Lab NZ’s research is conducted in partnership with industry, government, and other universities both in New Zealand and internationally. 
 
The HIT Lab NZ offers New Zealand’s only Master’s and PhD degrees in Human Interface Technology exciting study opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students, from engineering and other backgrounds such as design, psychology, economics, and sociology. These students join the Lab to expand their interest and expertise in human-computer interaction.

Candidates will have a relevant PhD degree or equivalent terminal degree in the arts, and should have a strong research and teaching record in human computer interaction and advanced interface technologies. This could include virtual, augmented and mixed reality and visualization systems in a wide field of applications. Duties will involve research and supervising postgraduate students, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, running short courses and developing new curricula material. The HIT Lab has a strong emphasis on project-based learning, and candidates would be expected to teach into the MHIT 602 and 603 masters courses on Human Interface Technology, and co-teach into courses from other departments that make extensive use of advanced interface technology. 
 
The successful appointee will also be responsible for providing strategic research leadership direction and academic staff leadership, and for building new and maintaining current internal and external relationships, particularly with industry, but also with regard to the broader College and University.
