Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) of Health Information Technology

The Integrated Information Technology Department at the University of South Carolina invites applications and nominations for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in health information technology. Qualified candidates may be considered for Director of Graduate Studies in Health IT.

The successful candidate will join the faculty of USC’s Master in Health Information Technology (MHIT), an interdisciplinary program with the Arnold School of Public Health. This innovative program is designed to prepare graduates ready to lead healthcare into the future. It is available as an on-campus program and an online program as well as a dual degree with the PharmD. Online as well as traditional classroom teaching, collaborative research, and grant writing related to health IT will be expected. The expanding Integrated Information Technology Department is actively involved with the regional business and healthcare communities through IT-oLogy (www.IT-ology.org) as well as Health Sciences South Carolina (www.healthsciencessc.org) and is accredited by ABET.

An earned doctorate in information technology or related discipline is required. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both information technology and the healthcare environment, and a demonstrated potential for research and high scholarly impact at the intersection of these two disciplines. Candidates should possess strong commitment to teaching, interdisciplinary research, and cultural diversity. Experience in online teaching, grant writing/external funding, and/or IT responsibilities in health organizations will be given preference.

The University of South Carolina's main campus is located in the capital city of Columbia, and is close to mountains and the coast. It is ranked by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as an institution of "very high research activity." With approximately 30,000 students, 50 degree programs, and a nationally--ranked library system, the university is often considered to be one of the most beautiful campuses in an urban setting, with a population of over 650,000 in the greater metropolitan area.
