Job Summary

The School of Information is a spirited community of scholars and
researchers who comprise the foremost educational institution in social
engagement information and computing. UMSI offers academic programs at the
doctoral, master’s and undergraduate level. In the Information Age, all

ideally positioned to meet them, or to teach future generations while doing
innovative research.

We are seeking a full-time, experienced instructor for courses that focus
on topics such as project management, human behavior, needs assessment,
usability evaluation, and user interaction design within our master’s and
undergraduate curriculum. Our graduates pursue careers as usability
engineers and user interaction designers, web developers, data analysts and
web analytics specialists, information policy analysts, librarians and
archivists, entrepreneurs, consultants, records managers, and information

Responsibilities*

Teach 4-5 courses (typically 3 or 4 credits each) during the academic year
(fall and winter terms). Develop course materials and use a variety of
pedagogical methods including lecture, discussion, and use of technology,
group work, and/or client-based projects. Prepare and grade assignments and
exams and provide office hours for students. Supervise graduate student
instructors and/or graders if applicable per course assignments.
Participate in student advising on course selections and professional
preparation, such as conference presentations or emerging trends in fields
related to scope of experience. Serve on school committees as assigned. ns

Required Qualifications*

Master’s degree or higher.  Teaching experience at the college level.
Significant, relevant professional work experience required if candidate
does not have a Ph.D.  Effective instructional skills as indicated by
course evaluations or other evaluative information. Strong organizational,
communication, and technical skills.

Desired Qualifications*

Earned Ph.D. or degree expected within 12 months in a field related to
course content. Professional experience in the archives and records
management field. Graduate level teaching and student advising experience.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between
the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains
and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other
terms and conditions of employment.
