Department Head, Management Information Systems (MIS)

The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business seeks applications and nominations of candidates to serve as the Department Head of Management Information Systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:

The UGA MIS Department is among the nation's premier MIS programs and has been highly ranked for several decades. It has excellent students and faculty, and enjoys strong support from alumni and business. For our next Department Head, we seek a leader who can further the MIS Department's national reputation by supporting our undergraduate and graduate degree programs and facilitating scholarly productivity. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in MIS or a related field and have a record of strong research and instructional excellence commensurate for initial appointment at the rank of professor with tenure. He or she should enjoy interacting with industry professionals on a regular basis, and be an effective advocate for the Department.  A minimum of two years of previous administrative experience as a department head or academic administrator is preferred, but not required. Candidates with outstanding research credentials may be considered for appointment to an endowed position.  The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2016.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

ABOUT THE MIS DEPARTMENT:
The Management Information Systems Department offers the following degrees: Ph.D., Master of Internet Technology (fully online), and BBA in MIS. The MIS PhD program is one of the oldest MIS programs - celebrating its 46th year. The BBA in MIS is highly ranked as the 12th best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The MIS Department consistently ranks highly for its scholarly productivity. For example, it is ranked 6th internationally in research productivity in the field's top two journals. Current research initiatives include Energy Informatics, Health Informatics, IS Leadership & Strategy, Digital Innovation Platforms & Infrastructure and a variety of other topics.


The MIS program is a hands-on major that equips students with high demand skills. The program prepares students to lead IS-enabled change in organizations.  The Terry MIS program provides the foundation for students to pursue a technical direction (such as a programmer or database administrator), a non-technical direction (such as a business process analyst or project manager), or somewhere in the middle (such as a business intelligence or IT risk & security specialist).
