Introduction

A large number of people suffer from phsycial and/or mental disabilities. These disabilities or disorders range from pshycological health to phsycial impairment that leads to poor life quality, low self-esteem, isolation and stigma. Over the past decade, Web-based interventions have shown promsing outcomes that highlight the potential role off ICT as a tool or a platform to deliver innovative solutions for the disabled population. We aim to gather knowledge from researchers in the area of ICT, eHealth, mHealth etc. to provide a detailed account of "Physical and Mental Disabilities", how the appropriate use of IT especially the Web can have positive implications for the users (patients) as well as the acadmia at large. This book will serve as a reference for practitioners and academics who are working in the area of Behavioural Therapies for Mental Disorders.


Objective

The purpose of the book is to develop a richer understanding of Web-based Behavioural Therapies for people with mental disorders. Despite a significantly large number of publications in the area, there is an evident lack of a concise reference book that specifically targets the effectiveness of Web-based Behavioural Therapies for Mental Disorders.

It is essential that we develop proactive and innovative Web-based interventions that can support people with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Web-based interventions and applications based on up-to-date psychological knowledge are an achievable solution that target people suffering from mental disorders. Use of the Web and computing technologies can help us reach a large number of users to provide them with innovative technology-delivered, proactive and novel interventions. Additionally, use of computing technologies ensures continuous access to the Web-based interventions, can be used and applied at individual levels.

Available research suggests that Web-based psychological interventions are effective, and generally well accepted by the users. Evidently, there is lack of knowledge about individually tailored Web–based interventions and services targeting individual needs. Similarly, the effectiveness of Web-based applications promoting wellbeing in mentally disabled population is still understudied. The aim of the book is to collect individual data of emotional, psychophysiological and subjective responses from Web-delivered health promoting interventions, and to develop knowledge base that would improve individually tailored Web-supported self-help programs for the disabled population. The book will introduce new approaches for understanding and designing and creating innovative technology-based health promoting interventions. This would also facilitate the development of effective technological solutions for promoting wellbeing meeting the needs for personalized health.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before July 30, 2015, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by August 30, 2015 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October 30, 20155. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Web-based Therapies for Mental Disorder. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
