Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science - Web Information Systems

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the social relevance of its research programmes. The faculty’s excellent facilities accentuate its international position in teaching and research. Within this interdisciplinary and international setting the faculty employs more than 1100 employees, including about 400 graduate students and about 2100 students. Together they work on a broad range of technical innovations in the fields of sustainable energy, telecommunications, microelectronics, embedded systems, computer and software engineering, interactive multimedia and applied mathematics. The TU Delft Department of Software and Computer Technology (SCT) is one of the leading Dutch groups active in research and academic education in the area of computer science, employing more than 150 people. 
The SCT Web Information Systems section (WIS, http://wis.ewi.tudelft.nl) concentrates in its research on engineering and science of the Web. The research specifically considers the role of Web data in the engineering of Web-based information systems. The section is an internationally leading research group in Web-based systems, with WIS researchers and students striving to advance the state of the art in relevant disciplines like user modelling, Web science, information retrieval, Web engineering, Web data management, and crowdsourcing. WIS members are actively involved in Delft Data Science.

Job description

We are seeking to strengthen our group with an ambitious and enthusiastic Associate or Assistant Professor. Responsibilities for the candidate include:
• Conducting high impact research in the area of Web science or data science.
• Supervising PhD students, helping them to become top researchers in Web information systems.
• Teaching courses at the bachelor as well as the master level in the TU Delft Computer Science curriculum.
• Supervising bachelor and master students in their graduation projects.
• Acquiring and managing externally funded research projects in Web information systems.
• Collaborating with industry to ensure that the group's research results have a lasting impact in Web information system development practice.
• Strengthening the contacts between the group and industry as well as other international academic institutions.
• Taking responsibility for management and committee work within the section and the department.

Requirements

Requirements for the candidate include:
• PhD in computer science or the equivalent. 
• Strong track record in Web science or data science research, as evidenced by refereed publications in the strongest journals and conference proceedings. 
• Experience in supervising PhD students. 
• Experience in developing and teaching academic courses. 
• International visibility and substantial international network of contacts with industry and academia.
• Good communication skills, strong social skills, team player mentality.

Conditions of employment

A tenure-track position is offered for five years. Based on performance indicators agreed upon the start of the appointment, a decision will be made in the final year whether to offer you a permanent faculty position.
The TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week and the option of assembling a customised compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
The TU Delft sets specific standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency.
