CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
Theme: “The Bright ICT Initiative - Building a New Research Paradigm”
The emergence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has had a profound effect on our social and economic lives, and has been a catalyst for innovation in areas such as healthcare, education, economic development, and connectivity. Conversely, the misuse of these ICTs has also unleashed an array of adverse side effects. Threats to our privacy, our autonomy and our financial security have become common, with cybercrime and online economic espionage already costing the global economy in excess of $500 billion each year. On a social level too, technology has influenced both behavior and the nature of human interaction. Digital addiction has become a major public health issue for many countries around the world, while cyberbullying and online abuse are also unwelcome byproducts of this information revolution. Additionally, a ‘digital divide’ between those with the skills and wealth to benefit from ICTs and those without access to them has been credited with widening the gap between rich and poor.
This research workshop is intended to address the social, ethical, economic, and legal challenges that are brought about by the mainstream adoption of ICTs. The Bright ICT Initiative aims at understanding and developing solutions to some of the challenges raised by novel information and communication technologies. We seek proposals that cover any new or promising research topics, or innovative and novel methodological approaches, for the ‘Bright ICT Initiative’. The key issues to be discussed at the workshop include, but are not limited to, the following:

² What should we, as an IS community, do to produce highly influential and impactful research works related to the Bright ICT Initiative?

² How can we establish a global research network that fosters effective collaboration between international scholars to study the Bright ICT Initiative?

² Do we need new, novel methodological approaches to better understand the Bright ICT Initiative?

² What operational procedures and policies are necessary for promoting and sustaining institutional collaborations to implement the vision of the Bright ICT Initiative?

² How can we solicit funding and grants nationally and internationally to provide systematic support for Bright ICT research initiatives?

² What research directions and priorities should we pursue to further develop the Bright ICT Initiative as an academic discipline?

² What publication venues and outlets should researchers target to produce high-quality works on the Bright ICT Initiative?

² What new research propositions, frameworks, theories, and paradigms surrounding the Bright ICT Initiative should we focus for the next 10 years?

² Do we need to build up the AIS College of Bright ICT to sustain collaborative research and publication?

² What should be covered in the proposed special issues of the Bright ICT Initiative?
