Journal of Management Analytics (JMA)
Special Issue on 'Embracing the Internet of Things (IoT) to Drive Data-Driven Decisions'
CFP: http://explore.tandfonline.com/cfp/est/jma-cfp

<MOTIVATION>

The Internet of Things (IoT), an emerging phenomenon characterized by an expanding network of interconnected sensors and actuators to facilitate data collection and exchange, has received enormous attention from both academics and practitioners. McKinsey (2015) estimated that IoT could potentially generate annual economic benefits in the range of USD $3.9 trillion to USD $11.1 trillion by 2025. By blurring the boundaries between people, process, data and devices, IoT has rendered networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before. Specifically, massive datasets generated by distributed sensors and devices point to a growing urgency in developing data analytical tools and techniques to augment the decision making process in order to realize business innovations in the likes of location-based services and customized production.

This special issue aims to not only develop novel tools for big data analysis, but to also identify fitting solutions to tackle managerial challenges confronting the IoT industry, especially in the related area of big data analysis.

This special issue will show case exemplary business practices associated with IoT that demonstrate the pivotal role played by IoT in enhancing service levels and improving operational efficiency. We also invite scholars and practitioners to explore ways of creating and capturing value from IoT (e.g., new business models and improved operational performance) and analyze the implications of IoT on market competitiveness and innovation.

This special issue embraces both retrospective and progressive views of how business practices have evolved or would transform in the face of IoT. It is open to all methodological approaches. The journal welcomes papers that identifies and addresses knowledge gaps in:

(1) challenges and opportunities pertinent to harnessing IoT for market competitiveness and innovation;

(2) emerging business models anchored on distinct modes of value creation and capturing made possible through IoT;

(3) issues pertaining to the management of big data for decision making within IoT environments, and

(4) inter-disciplinary perspectives to structuring IoT initiatives.

A list of potential topics for the special issue is given below to stimulate ideas for submissions.
