Special Issue on Big Data Analytics
Almost every day we generate 2.5 quintillion bytes of data (IBM 2013) and interestingly, 90 percent of the data in the world has been created in the last two years. Big Data has even been suggested as the next big thing in innovation (Gobble, 2013). While data have always been an important part of the Information Technology (IT) agenda, it is the scale and scope of change which big data is bringing to organizations that has attracted so much attention in recent times. Big data can be characterized by the characteristics of volume, variety, velocity, variability, veracity, and complexity - according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_data accessed on August 4<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_data%20accessed%20on%20August%204>, 2015.

In the era of Big Data, organizations are faced with inexplicable amount of information that can provide them with invaluable insights about what essentially matters to them, but real challenges remain with the use of the right technology and systems to manage Big Data to generate business value and competitive advantage. Furthermore, tangible case studies demonstrating the power of Big Data to enhance organizational performance by implementation of appropriate Information technologies and information systems are relatively small in contemporary literature.

Aim of this special issue is to disseminate cutting-edge research that provides insights into the challenges, opportunities, strategies, technologies and systems to manage big data. Specifically, we call for innovative papers describing or demonstrating theory and practice of storing, accessing, searching, mining, processing, and visualizing big data in the context of network computing and applications.

This special issue invites papers describing case studies on novel information systems, information technologies and applications that contribute to both academics and practice in the broad field of Big Data management. We highly welcome papers that present innovative research to address Big Data challenges with adoption of unique approaches such as: state of art software architectures, cloud computing platforms, data mining, web mining, text mining, decision models, and innovative information system development and integration.

Some possible topics of interest for this special issue include:

* Novel information architectures for efficiently managing streams of Big Data

* Software systems to support Big Data computing

* Parallel and distributed systems for Big Data storage and analyses

* Descriptions of systems and applications demonstrating how Big Data were used in various industries to improve organizational performance

* Infrastructures supporting large-scale and real-time data analytics

* Hadoop, the new enterprise data operating system

* SQL and NoSQL for data analysis

* Deep learning and in-memory analytics

* Big data lake and predictive analytics

* Adoption cases, frameworks involved in research methods for Big Data in the Cloud

* Models and applications that analyze and improve the Big Data processing in Cloud Computing

* Case studies on system designs comparing big data management between Cloud and non-Cloud environment

This special issue also welcomes Teaching Case articles describing certain contemporary methods of teaching IT cases that engage students in realistic business scenarios. For example, a new teaching case could explore the complex issues involving the transition of technology platforms, organization and management of new technologies, and importance of stakeholder commitments in new technology acceptance. These cases must be accompanied by a Research Note and a Teaching Note.

Submission Format and Guidelines

The research must present one or more well described cases and/or applications befitting the mission of Journal of IT Case and Application Research (JITCAR). The case research can be by itself or in conjunction with an empirical or experimental research. It is important to note that the submitted papers not only demonstrate issues related to IT/IS development and implementation and Big Data, but also advance our current understanding of implication of Big Data management on organizational performance through adoption of innovative technology and systems.

All submitted papers must be clearly written in English and must contain only original work, which has not been published by, or is currently under review for, any other journal, conference, symposium, or workshop. Manuscripts should explicitly state what is unique and valuable about the paper within the context of the special issue theme.
Important Dates:

*       Paper Submission: January 31, 2016

*       First Round Decision: April 30, 2016

*       Revision Due: June 15, 2016

*       Final Decision: June 30, 2016
Submission Requirements
Please submit the manuscripts to either of the two Special Issue co-editors (with copy to the other editor) by the due dates.
