The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at the University of South Carolina, as one of top 20 schools in Library and Information Studies, is actively recruiting high quality doctoral students in Library and Information Science. SLIS, accredited by the American Library Association, has an outstanding reputation for excellence in education. There are some funding opportunities for top admitted candidates in the form of graduate assistantship including tuition waivers and stipends.

Massive changes in how to access huge amounts of data increases the role that information plays in academia, industry, and libraries. Our Ph.D. program provides doctoral-trained teacher scholars for library and information science programs across the nation. It also promotes the research-based foundation for these areas within the profession and students receive one-on-one mentorship from faculty. Our students demonstrate excellence in:

· Nurturing critical and reflective thinking on the fundamental problems related to using information.
· Fostering an environment of successful mentoring.
· Preparing scholars who are passionate about the role of information in human affairs.
· Fostering cross-disciplinary thinking with research and academic expectations.
· Mastering the literature and practices in the broad field of information science.
· Developing in-depth knowledge in their specialty field.
· Developing profound skills of synthesis and analysis of research.

In the 2015 Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIST) annual meeting, our PhD students received three awards: ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation, James M. Cretsos Leadership Award, and New Leaders.

Our faculties work in the following research areas:
