AIS is proud to introduce a new chapter to the growing ranks of AIS Communities (SIGs, Colleges and Chapters). In December, the AIS Council approved the formation of the Brazil Chapter of AIS.

The mission of the Brazilian AIS chapter is to promote the dissemination of AIS principles through the interaction and knowledge exchange among academics and professionals engaged in the development, management, governance and use of information and communication technology.

Another important mission for the Brazilian Chapter is to foster the consolidation of an Information Systems Agenda for development and research that focus on Brazilian social and professional issues and developing countries such as the "BRICS", as well as on the developed countries agenda.

The chapter will also work to support the development of the Information Systems Area and related areas such as Information Technology and Information Sciences, create a link between educational institutions and professionals of the Information Systems Area and related areas, provide support for the critical analysis of the problems and opportunities associated with information systems and technology in Brazil, establish partnerships and agreements with national and international institutions (universities, colleges, educational institutions, other associations, private companies) to disseminate the Information Systems Field, and disseminate to all chapter members the concept of "ambassadors".

The chapter will be led by president Edson Luiz Ricio of the University of Sao Paulo with support from president-elect Victor F. A. Barros, secretary Marici Cristine Gramacho Sakata and treasurer Cecilia Geron.
