The School of Information Sciences (SIS) at the University of Tampere 
invites applications for a fixed-term researcher’s positions for a 
period from 1 May 2016 to 30 April 2017.

The position is both a part of a Tekes-funded research project "eSports" 
(UTA/SIS Game Research Lab), as well as Tekes-funded research project 
”Koukku" which is focused on gamification and the game business. The 
central focus of the ”eSports” is on how entertainment, game, and media 
companies can successfully integrate into the fastest growing 
present-day media field: the video and game streaming culture prevalent 
on the Internet (e.g. YouTube, Twitch, eSports, eSports betting).

The tasks include participating in all areas of the research project 
including developing ideas, collecting data, collaboration with 
businesses, empirical (qualitative and/or quantitative) as well as 
conceptual research, reporting on the progress of the project, 
organizing project-related events, and publishing research results. The 
research done in the project can potentially and hopefully contribute 
towards completion of a doctoral or other similar degree.

A person appointed as a researcher must hold a Master’s degree, an 
extensive knowledge of research methodological skills and prior 
knowledge of the project themes eSports and related online media. 
Moreover, a good knowledge of game research, gamification, media 
research, gamble research will be considered important. Good 
communication skills in English are required.

The remuneration of the researcher post is based on level 2 of the 
job-related salary element for teaching and research personnel in the 
salary system of the Finnish Universities. The basic salary will be 
supplemented with a performance increase based on the employee's 
individual performance. The positions carry a four-month trial period.

communication skills in English are required.
