Vacancy ID: *V39.2549*

Intended starting date: 1 September 2016

The School of Industrial Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology
(TU/e) has a vacancy for a PhD student in Information Systems/Business
Engineering in the area of business process management in advanced service
environments.

*Organization*

Eindhoven University of Technology is one of the world’s leading research
universities (ranked by the Times Higher Education Supplement). It is in
particular well‐known for its joint research with industry (ranked number
one worldwide by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies). The
Information Systems Group in the School of Industrial Engineering performs
advanced research in the area of business process engineering, focusing on
business process management (BPM) and business process intelligence (BPI).
The group has a strong national and international reputation for both basic

The research will be conducted at Eindhoven University of Technology, at
the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE&IS),
embedded within the Research Group of Information Systems.

*Research Project*

The PhD project is part of a strategic research activity on engineering
(design) of service-dominant business in an environment where multiple
organizations operate as a network to offer dynamic service-based solutions
to their customers. We have developed a framework - BASE/X (Business
Agility through Business Engineering in the Extended Enterprise) that
covers all aspects from business strategy conception to business
information system architecture blueprinting. This also includes elements
like business model design, business service specification and business
process modeling and implementation. The research team has been running a
series of industry projects on this topic in the mobility, logistics,
services, and healthcare domains.

The main objective of the PhD research will be to develop a method and
tooling to assess the viability of business models in different dimensions,
taking into consideration the business services of multiple parties and
their composition required for operationalizing the business models in
business processes. The method will allow for conducting ‘what-if’ type of
analyses and evaluating the feasibility taking into account both business
aspects, like financial and non-financial drivers, and operational aspects,
like composability of services into business processes.
