Please forward this announcement to PhD students and junior faculty as appropriate

AIS and Emerald, the publishers of Information Technology and People, are pleased to announce a half?day workshop on ?How to be an effective reviewer? that will be held on the afternoon of 12 June 2016, in association with ECIS 2016 in Istanbul.

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce PhD students (and junior academic staff) to the practices associated with being an accomplished, constructive and respected reviewer for the information systems field. Effective reviewers learn from the review process and, as a result, can see how to improve their own publications. Good reviewers are also recognized by the community and are often offered opportunities that enhance their academic profile, including journal editorial positions and conference track positions.

Attendees who successfully complete the workshop will receive a certificate of completion from AIS.

Workshop attendees will:
? develop an understanding of the life cycle of a review from a journal?s perspective by following a paper through the review process;
? recognize the range of ethical issues that can be faced by reviewers;
? appreciate how reviews can help develop papers at different stages of the review process; and
? understand the differences in review process across journals.

Thanks to the support of the sponsors, there is no registration fee for the workshop, however places are limited and, if oversubscribed, preference will be given to applicants from AIS region 2 (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The organisers are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and encourage participation with respect to qualified individuals from underrepresented groups. In this regard, they believe greater representation from women and members of ethnic minority groups would benefit the community therefore they welcome applications from these groups.

Application process
Individuals who are interested in attending the workshop need to inform the workshop organisers (e.a.whitley at lse.ac.uk) of their wish to attend. It is hoped that attendees will also stay to attend the main ECIS conference. Applicants are advised to discuss their intention to attend the workshop with the person who will be able to authorise their travel etc., typically their supervisor / committee chair (if PhD students) or their Head of Department or equivalent (if junior faculty).

Deadline for applications
Applications to attend the workshop need to be submitted to e.a.whitley at lse.ac.uk by midnight, Monday 11 April 2016.

The workshop will take place at the ECIS site on 12 June 2016 between 13.00 and 17.00.

Edgar Whitley, Jason Thatcher, Workshop Organisers

Introduction
Data driven scientific discovery is an important emerging paradigm for computing in areas
including social computing, services, Internet of Things, sensor networks, telecommunications,
biology, health-care, and cloud. Under this paradigm, Data Science is the core that drives new
researches in many areas, from environmental to social. There are many associated scientific
challenges, ranging from data capture, creation, storage, search, sharing, modeling, analysis,
and visualization. Among the complex aspects to be addressed we mention here the integration
across heterogeneous, interdependent complex data resources for real-time decision making,
streaming data, collaboration, and ultimately value co-creation. Data science encompasses the
areas of data analytics, machine learning, statistics, optimization and managing big data, and
has become essential to glean understanding from large data sets and convert data into actionable
intelligence, be it data available to enterprises, Government or on the Web.

Following the previous two successful editions DSAA'2014, DSAA' 2015, the 3rd IEEE International

  June 14, 2016

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES

The advance in silicon technology has led to
the emergence of on-Chip Systems (SoC), where a complete system with a large
number of intellectual property cores can be integrated onto a single silicon
chip. The performance of SoCs highly depends on the speed and efficiency of
their underlying communications subsystems. The light weight networks, known as
Network-on-Chip (NoC), have been introduced to overcome the scalability problem
found in shared-bus communication architectures. Intensive research studies
have been undertaken investigating the design cost, in terms of silicon area
and power consumption, and performance of NoC. Most of these studies are
targeting NoC topology, router microarchitecture, switching techniques, routing
algorithms, and application mapping onto NoC.

The workshop on the Design and Performance of
Networks on Chip (DPNoC'2015) will represent an international forum for
researchers from both academia and industry to expose the latest trends,
research findings, and emerging issues in this area.

The Workshop topics include (but are not
limited to) the following:

o Technology constraints on
NoCs

o Router microarchitecture

o Flow control techniques

o Switching techniques

o Routing protocols

o Fault tolerance/reliability

Social network analysis is concerned with the study of relationships between social entities. The recent advances in internet technologies and social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, have created outstanding opportunities for individuals to connect, communicate or comment on issues or events of their interests. Social networks are dynamic and evolving in nature; they also involve a huge number of users. Frequently, the information related to a certain concept is distributed among several servers. This brings numerous challenges to researchers, particularity in the data mining and machine learning fields. The purpose of this SNAMS Symposium is to provide a forum for researchers to present and discuss their work which is related to social network analysis. This workshop is col-located with the 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud-2016), 22-24 August 2016, Vienna, Austria.

Proceedings of the workshops will be published by the IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS) and will be included in the IEEE-Xplore and the IEEE Computer Society (CSDL) digital libraries. These are also indexed through IEE INSPEC, EI (Compendex), Thomson ISI.

create "higher level" process models (e.g., various classes of Petri nets,
BPMN, or UML activity diagrams).

*BIOPNN?16 (deadline: April 20):* The goal of this workshop is to provide a
platform for researchers aiming at fundamental research and real life
applications of Petri nets and other concurrency models in Systems and
Synthetic Biology. Systems and Synthetic Biology are full of challenges and
open issues, with adequate modelling and analysis techniques being one of
them, specifically when multiple scales and multiple levels come into play.
We are looking for approaches helping to bridge the gap between different
formalisms, with Petri nets being one them, as they offer a family of
related models, which can be used as a kind of umbrella formalism - models
may share the network structure, but vary in their kinetic details
(quantitative information).

*PNSE?16 (deadline: April 10):* For the successful realization of complex
systems of interacting and reactive software and hardware components the
use of a precise language at different stages of the development process is
of crucial importance. Petri nets are becoming increasingly popular in this
area, as they provide a uniform language supporting the tasks of modeling,
validation, and verification. Their popularity is due to the fact that
Petri nets capture fundamental aspects of causality, concurrency and choice
in a natural and mathematically precise way without compromising
readability. The use of Petri nets (P/T-nets, colored Petri nets and
extensions) in the formal process of software engineering, covering
modeling, validation, and verification, will be presented as well as their
application and tools supporting the disciplines mentioned
above.

======================================================================

Submission deadline: 12 June, 2016
Submission site: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jtres2016

======================================================================

Over 90% of all microprocessors are now used for real-time and embedded applications. Embedded devices are deployed on a broad diversity of distinct processor architectures and operating systems. The application software for many embedded devices is custom tailored if not written entirely from scratch. The size of typical embedded system software applications is growing exponentially from year to year, with many of today's embedded systems comprised of multiple millions of lines of code. For all of these reasons, the software portability, reuse, and modular composability benefits offered by Java are especially valuable to developers of embedded systems.

Both embedded and general-purpose software frequently need to comply with real-time constraints. Higher-level programming languages and middleware are needed to robustly and productively design, implement, compose, integrate, validate, and enforce memory and real-time constraints along with conventional functional requirements for reusable software components. The Java programming language has become an attractive choice because of its safety, productivity, its relatively low maintenance costs, and the availability of well-trained developers.

::Goal::

Interest in real-time Java by both the academic research community and commercial industry has been motivated by the need to manage the complexity and costs associated with continually expanding embedded real-time software systems. The goal of the workshop is to gather researchers working on real-time and embedded Java to identify the challenging problems that still need to be solved in order to assure the success of real-time Java as a technology and to report results and experience gained by researchers.

The Java ecosystem has outgrown the combination of Java as programming language and the JVM. For example, Android uses Java as source language and the Dalvik virtual machine for execution. Languages such as Scala are compiled to Java bytecode and executed on the JVM. JTRES welcomes submissions that apply such approaches to embedded and/or real-time systems.

::Submission Requirements::

Participants are expected to submit a paper of at most 10 pages (ACM Conference Format, i.e., two-columns, 10 point font). Accepted papers will be published in the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series via the ACM Digital Library and have to be presented by one author at the JTRES.

LaTeX and Word templates can be found at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html

Papers describing open source projects shall include a description how to obtain the source and how to run the experiments in the appendix. The source version for the published paper will be hosted at the JTRES web site.
Papers should be submitted through EasyChair. Please use the submission link:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jtres2016

Selected papers will be invited for submission to a special issue of the TBD.

Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to:

New real-time programming paradigms and language features
    Industrial experience and practitioner reports
Open source solutions for real-time Java
Real-time design patterns and programming idioms
High-integrity and safety critical system support
Java-based real-time operating systems and processors

*Aims and Scope of the Special Issue*

Mobile and wearable devices (e.g., smartphones, FitBit, AppleWatch) are
among the most transformative technologies that have created a rapid
worldwide impact on almost every aspect of our social and working life due
to their ubiquity, pervasiveness, and portability. The built-in (e.g.,
accelerometers, gyroscopes, and ambient lighting sensors) and external
sensors have further increased the variety of interaction possibilities,
such as gestural interaction. Mobile and wearable devices are creating new
ways of conducting business, computation, and health management, and
transforming how we communicate, interact, and entertain. There have been
countless mobile applications developed and deployed in the past few years,
which are subject to a variety of usability, accessibility, and interaction
challenges.

This special issue is aimed to bring together the significant, cutting-edge
research findings and best practices in the field of mobile HCI and build a
bridge from current and emerging research to the future. It covers HCI
issues in the design, implementation, evaluation, and use of innovative
mobile, handheld, and wearable devices, techniques, and applications. The
relevant topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

? Usability of mobile applications and mobile user experience

? Mobile accessibility and assistive technologies

? Context-aware/context-sensitive mobile application design,
evaluation, and use

? Adaptive mobile user interfaces

? Multi-modal interaction technologies for mobile devices

? Design, evaluation, and use of m-Health interventions or
applications

? Development of mobile usability guidelines

? Mobile collocated interactions with wearables

? Mobile learning and educational mobile HCI

? Mobile applications in smart city environments

? Privacy, security, trust, and ethical issues in mobile commerce

? Emerging interaction technologies for mobile devices

? Mobile cognition ? using mobile devices to enhance human cognition

? Acceptance and adoption of mobile and ubiquitous technologies
