Congratulations to JMIS; this was long overdue, by the way! Our next task will be for JAIS and internationalizing the list as well. It is curious, and even ironic, that FT isn't pushing internationalization.

I just received the message below from a source. It is most unfortunate that Journal of the AIS was not included. How many decades does it take to have an excellent journal recognized as such? Also, a non-North American IS journal like EJIS or JIT should be on the list, especially given the impact factors we are seeing. We are still under-represented in the list, especially when you consider that the FT45 is now the FT50.

Dear all,

Many thanks for all your votes and comments. We realise that it is quite a sensitive issue and that it required lots of hard work to canvass opinion from your faculty. I’m please to report that we had a strong response rate with a total of 140 schools submitting their votes, two-thirds of invited participants.

The starting point of this review was to look at the journals that contribute the least to the research rank. Given that the list is limited by nature, it is important to “capture” as much of the research published by business school faculty as possible in leading journals, if not necessarily in the most selective ones. However, it was never meant to demote nor to promote any journals. The FT list of journals is not a ranking.
Out of the 10 journals up for review, we have decided to drop the 4 journals that have each received 60% or more of the votes.
The breath and width of suggested journals (around 150 in total) shows that there are lots of very good research journals out there. While we cannot consider them all, there seem to be some consensus about 9 of them. Rather than choosing between them, we’ve decided to include them all.
Overall, we will increase the list of journals to 50, dropping 4 and adding a further 9. The revised list will be used for the MBA 2017 and onward.

The journals being dropped are:
- Academy of Management Perspectives
- California Management Review
- Journal of the American Statistical Association
- RAND Journal of Economics

The journals being added are:
- Human Relations
- Journal of Management
- Journal of Management Information Systems
- Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science
- Manufacturing and Service Operations Management
- Research Policy
- Review of Economic Studies
- Review of Finance
- Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal

It is likely that 50 will be the upper limit for this list. So future reviews will also look at potential journals to drop and their replacement.

Best wishes
Laurent
