Texas Tech University (Texas Tech) invites nominations and applications for the Dean of the Jerry S.
Rawls College of Business (Rawls College) search. In its next Dean, Texas Tech seeks an
entrepreneurial, innovative, and collaborative leader who will further the Rawls College in its missions to
create knowledge through high-quality research and to educate and develop students for positions of
leadership in Texas and the global marketplace.

The University
Established in 1923, Texas Tech is a public state-designated national research university classified as a
Tier One "Highest Research Activity" University by the Carnegie Foundation. Texas Tech is
designated an Emerging Research University in the state of Texas, with total research expenditures
increasing by more than 150% since 2008, and in 2012 Texas Tech was certified to have met the metrics
needed to access Texas' National Research University Fund. Texas Tech is developing a research
portfolio commensurate with member institutions of the Association of American Universities.
The last decade has brought tremendous growth to the University, with enrollments growing over thirty
percent and an additional 10,000 students. In fall 2015, Texas Tech enrolled over 35,000 students across
more than 150 bachelor's, 100 master's, and 50 doctoral degree programs. TTU is divided into the
Graduate School, the School of Law, and 10 academic colleges consisting of the College of Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources, the College of Architecture, the College of Arts and Sciences, the
Rawls College of Business Administration, the College of Education, the Whitacre College of Engineering,
the College of Human Sciences, the College of Media & Communication, the College of Visual &
Performing Arts, and the Honors College. Texas Tech, along with the Texas Tech University Health

The Rawls College of Business
The Rawls College has a faculty of 113 and serves over 4,000 undergraduate, 850 master, and 66
doctoral students enrolled in one of the College's six areas of study: Accounting; Finance; Energy,
Economics and Law; Information Systems and Quantitative Sciences; Management; and Marketing and
Supply Chain Management. The College also offers dual programs in conjunction with architecture,
agriculture, law, medicine, and personal financial planning.
In addition, the Rawls College serves as home to a number of exciting programs and offerings for Texas
Tech students. These include:
* School of Accounting - In 2013, the Rawls College established the first separately-accredited
School of Accounting in Texas-one of only about 40 such schools nationwide and one of 168
programs in the U.S. that is separately accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business (AACSB).
* STEM MBA - To address an ever-growing need for leaders in the STEM (science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics) fields, the Rawls College created a new STEM MBA program
focused on the competencies the STEM students need to advance in their careers.
* Commerce - Texas Tech offers the only business degree in energy in the entire state of Texas,
and the Rawls College is the only business school in the U.S. with full-time faculty dedicated
solely to teaching the business of energy.
* Master of Science in Data Science - The Rawls College recently launched an M.S. in Data
Science to address the growing need for scientists who can employ business analytics, business
intelligence, and statistical methods to manage the Big Data needs of organizations.
The Rawls College occupies a 150,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2012 and
achieved Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The College is
currently building a 38,241 square-foot addition.

The Position
Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President, the Dean serves as the chief executive officer of the
Rawls College. The Dean will work closely with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the business
community to achieve the goals of the College and will provide the leadership and vision required to fulfill
its mission. The Dean will supervise strategic planning, curriculum development, and alumni relations,
and is responsible for providing academic leadership, revenue generation, budget formulation and
execution, and personnel management. In addition, the Dean serves as a member of the Deans and
Provost Councils, which provide leadership in determining academic policies and procedures and in
developing long-range plans for the University. The Dean will support and focus on the continued
excellence in the areas of research, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
The next Dean will serve as a strong advocate on behalf of the College to internal and external University
stakeholders in addition to representing the Rawls College and Texas Tech on the national and
international stage.

Qualifications and Characteristics
The successful candidate should have a distinguished record of accomplishment that will support
appointment at the rank of professor and that ideally will include an earned doctorate in a discipline
appropriate to the college.
