The Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) is the premier conference in Australasia for Information Systems. In 2016, the 27th ACIS will be hosted by the Faculty of Business, University of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. The event will take place at the McKinnon building on the University of Wollongong campus from the 5th-7th December 2016. The seaside city of Wollongong is located just 80km south of Sydney on a beautiful stretch of the New South Wales coastline. Wollongong’s distinct geography, lying on a narrow coastal plain flanked by the Illawarra Escarpment to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east, results in a natural environment that includes both pristine beaches and mountainous rainforest with dazzling views of the coastline.

Conference Theme: Occupying the Sweet Spot: IS at the Intersection

IS is at the exciting intersection between man and machine, between the social and the technical, between social science and engineering/science, between digital transformation and digital disruption, between facilitation and inhibition. IS is a go-between and an intermediary. Not privileging the one above the other, IS is occupying a sweet spot both in academia and in practice. We should promote, explore and exploit that sweet spot. Instead of lamenting, let’s celebrate, defy and take on the challenge of lack of identity and recognition.

The 2016 ACIS conference calls for papers which show how information systems have become an important and pervasive force that is shaping practices at personal, organisational and societal levels. To that effect, the papers will showcase the unique value that IS research creates at the intersection of a wide range of situations within business and society. Papers should be original, unpublished submissions in English and these must be made via the ACIS 2016 submission system. This system, and information on submission formats, is now available at the ACIS 2016 website http://business.uow.edu.au/acis-2016/index.html. All paper submissions will then undergo a double-blind peer review process.
