JADS, the novel Graduate School on Data Science and Entrepreneurship, is 
seeking a highly motivated and dedicated PhD candidate to work on an 
exceedingly challenging, innovative, and interdisciplinary research 
project at the intersection of data analytics and data engineering.

JADS (www.jads.nl <http://www.eriss.nl>) undertakes innovative, 
interdisciplinary data science research. We focus on real-world 
challenges that demand the use of multiple conceptual, methodological 
and substantive approaches. The graduate school will deliver 
entrepreneurial and innovative data scientists equally versed in 
performing cutting-edge scientific research and applying it to the most 
pressing societal and business challenges in a collaborative ecosystem, 
stimulating a stream of new scalable (or exponential) business models.

You will have the opportunity to work in an international environment at 
the brand new JADS campus in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) and 
collaborate with and visit a number of high-profile researchers from 
universities and research institutes all over Europe.

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

- An excellent Masters degree (avg. over 8/10) in Computer Science, 
Information Systems or a closely related field;
- Programming skills in languages, such as Python, Java, and, PHP;
- Data science programming skills, such as R, MapReduce/Hadoop/SPARK, 
HIVE, NoSQL, and, JSON;
- Strong formal background (mathematics, logic, etc.);
- Very good communication and writing skills in English;
- Knowledge and experience within the fields of SOA, cloud computing, 
data modeling, data engineering, and development skills will be highly 
rated.

Candidates should be able to work in a collaborative environment with a 
strong commitment to achieving research excellence.
