The Department of Business Information and Technology (formerly Management Information Systems) of the University of Memphis invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor, effective fall semester 2017. Responsibilities include effectively teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, developing a stream of quality research, participating in activities of the department, and fulfilling professional and university service responsibilities.


Qualifications

Candidates applying for an Assistant Professor position should have (or be expected to have, by summer 2017) a Ph.D. in Information Systems or a related discipline from an AACSB accredited university or international equivalent. Candidates will be considered for Associate Professor based on having a research record commensurate with that rank, a strong trajectory for future top-tier publications, and demonstrated excellence in teaching Information Systems at the graduate and/or undergraduate level.


Candidates should demonstrate an interest and/or background in technical topics of IS and applied teaching with emphasis on software development technologies and/or data management. A research competence in econometrics techniques is also strongly desired.  Effective college teaching experience and evidence of strong and continued research potential are required for all ranks. Applicants for associate must also have substantial professional experience and a strong record of scholarly research. Past experience in Ph.D. student mentoring is desired.


Compensation

This is an academic-year appointment and offers competitive compensation, summer research support, and an attractive benefits program, depending on qualifications.


The Department

The Department of Business Information & Technology is an academically diverse, professionally active group of 15 full-time faculty members. The Department of Business Information & Technology offers the following degrees: Ph.D., Master of Information Systems, and B.S. in BIT. In addition, the Fogelman College of Business and Economics offers an on-campus MBA degree, and Executive MBA degrees and online MBA degrees. The department also offers graduate certificate programs in Business Intelligence and Analytics, Business Information Assurance, Software Testing, and Business Project Management. The BIT Department has a strong tradition in information systems research (using a wide range of methodologies and data analysis methods) with a current focus on innovative topics including open data, digital platforms, open source, business analytics, information search, healthcare informatics, IT strategy, IT governance, information security, system testing, and project management.


The College

The Fogelman College of Business & Economics has become a leading business school in the Southeast. Globalization is a strategic emphasis of the College. The academic programs of the College are fully accredited by AACSB International. The College faculty of 96 serves over 3,000 students, with approximately 2,450 undergraduates, 525 master’s students and 60 doctoral students. The highly qualified faculty is recognized for scholarship and publications in leading academic and professional journals.
