Dear colleagues,
Yes, studying data centers is relevant to MIS due to their essential role in societies and organizations, but they also draw attention to broader issues pertaining to organizational business continuity. There is actually plenty of research on business continuity and IT service continuity, which focuses on prevention and recovering from smaller and larger (IT) incidents such as electrical-equipment failures in data centers (like in Delta Airlines case), information security incidents (like TJX and Sony Playstation), human errors, natural disasters etc.
Some examples of literature include:
Botha, J., and Von Solms, R. 2004. "A cyclic approach to business continuity planning," Information Management & Computer Security (12:4), pp. 328-337.

Dear colleagues,
PLS?17 will take place on June 17th-19th, 2017 in Macau (China), organized by Macau University of Science and Technology (http://www.must.edu.mo). The final date for abstract submission will be December 17th 2016. PLS?17 will provide the following programs for attendees.
Workshops
After a return to the origins of structural equation modeling (SEM), the PLSPM algorithm will be presented. A methodology to interpret results will then be suggested on the basis of real life cases. The training session will be illustrated by applications using XLSTAT. This 2-day event will focus on both algorithm practice (first day) and model assessment (second day).
Conference sessions
Methodological contribution and related method applications will be discussed. Now we have a session run by Prof. T. Ramayah, scholars from Malaysia will discuss PLS Path Modeling and PLS application on business research. Gabriel Cepeda and Jose L. Roldan will run a session ?PLS en Espa?ol?, scholars from Spain and Iberoamerica will discuss PLS path modeling papers. Another session will be run by Prof. Ivan Lai, scholars from HK and Macau will discuss PLS applications on tourism and environmental studies. More sessions will be organized later.
Round table discussions
We will have opportunities to have extensive discussions on publication, career, etc. with highly-cited scholars in a small range. Selected Papers will be recommended and published at Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050, IF=1.343) or Sensors (ISSN 1424-8220, IF=2.033). We are working on more opportunities to get the conference submissions published on SSCI or SCIE journals.
http://www.mdpi.com/journal/sustainability/special_issues/modern_statistical_techniques
Experience sharing and career opportunities
Top management from universities in Macau and Zhuhai (Guangdong, China) will attend and share the working experiences. Scholars who are interested in career opportunities in Macau or Zhuhai are welcome to attend this session.
More information will be found on http://www.pls17.org. We are looking forward to seeing you in Macau next year.

Final Call for Poster and Demo:
The 2016 IEEE International Conference on Data Science and Systems (DSS
2016), 12-14 Dec. 2016, Sydney, Australia.
Website: http://www.swinflow.org/confs/2016/dss/poster.htm
Key dates:
Deadline for proceedings published posters/demos: 1 October 2016 (11:59pm
HST)
Notification of Acceptance: 7 October 2016
Final versions of proceeding published posters/demos: 15 October 2016
Submission
Please email your posters/demos to confs.aus at gmail.com with the email
subject as "DSS 2016 poster demo submission".
Two types of posters and demos:
1. Proceedings published posters and demos: Submission is a 2-page short
paper describing the post/demo content, research, relevance and importance
to Data Science and Systems or related topics. If accepted, the 2-page
short paper will be published in the main conference proceedings together
with regular research papers. Each accepted poster or demo must register to
the main conference with full registration.
2. Web published posters and demos: Submission is a 1-page
extended abstract. Such posters/demos will not be included in the
conference proceedings, but will be published on the conference website.
Both types of posters/demos will be displayed during the conference.

Subject: [AISWorld] Are Data Centers worthy to be researched in MIS
area?

Dear colleagues in AIS:
The topic of data center is still banned in our area. However, we should
be aware of the economic relevance of them. A sample news from August 8,
2016.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Delta Airlines data center outage that grounded about 2,000 flights
over the span of three days in August cost the company $150 million, the
airline?s representatives told the audience of a transportation industry
conference in Boston Wednesday"
