We welcome you to join us for the Social Movements and IT Symposium at HICSS 2017 on January 4th from 1-4 pm. Participants are invited to provide an extended abstract of projects that will be discussed in lightning-round presentations. Please submit the following as a 1-page PDF or MSWord file to Amber Young (amberyoung at umass.edu<mailto:amberyoung at umass.edu>) by November 21, 2016:


·      Name and institution of presenter(s)

·      Title of project/area of study

·      Brief synopsis of the study

·      Brief discussion of aspects of social movement theory the study draws on or contributes to

The organizers will provide participants with an overview of the current state of research on Social Movements and IT. Panel speakers include:

Dr. Lisen Selander, University of Gothenburg
Dr. Arvind Malhotra, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Dr. Sirkka Jarvenpaa, University of Texas, Austin
Dr. Elizabeth Davidson, University of Hawai'i Manoa

The symposium schedule will allow participants time for discussion and networking, and facilitate brainstorming of future research directions. This symposium will serve as a potential springboard for a special issue that will be announced later.
