ECIS 2017 Doctoral Consortium Call for Nominations

The ECIS Doctoral Consortium aims to facilitate a collegial and affirmative environment where doctoral students currently working on dissertations in the area of Information Systems can share their work and receive constructive feedback.

The Doctoral Consortium Committee invites nominations to the consortium. Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a University within AIS Area 2 (Europe, Africa and the Middle East). Each University can nominate only one candidate and must guarantee proper funding for the student to attend the doctoral consortium as well as the main conference. Room and board at the consortium are provided courtesy of ECIS 2017 and the conference sponsors.

Important Dates

Submission deadline: February 17th, 2017 Notification of acceptance: April 14th, 2017

Consortium: June 5-6, 2017 (Monday and Tuesday, arrival on Sunday, June 4th)

Nomination Requirements and Submission Procedure

The consortium is designed for students who are engaged in developing their dissertation research. Students who will have completed their dissertations by September 2017 or are close to completion will not be accepted.

* A student must be nominated by a representative of his or her respective institution. Self-nominations by students will not be considered

* The nomination letter should be written by any one of the following: the student's supervisor, director of the IS doctoral program, the Dean of the College or Faculty, or the IS department's chairperson

The nomination package should include the following:

*            A Nomination Letter

* A Nominee Information Sheet including the dissertation abstract

* A Dissertation Proposal Paper prepared by the doctoral student summarizing the dissertation research (see details below)

The submitted materials, as ONE FILE, must be e-mailed to dcchairs at ecis2017.eu<mailto:dcchairs at ecis2017.eu> as attachment. All submissions must be in Adobe's PDF format and must follow the submission format and instructions. The nomination package must be received no later than midnight Central European Standard Time (CET) on February 17, 2017. Nomination packages that are incomplete, in other file formats, received after the deadline, or composed of multiple files will be declined.

Submission Format and Instructions

English is the language of the doctoral consortium and of all submitted materials. The paper outlining the candidate's research should be in the form of an abbreviated dissertation proposal and must include a cover page with the following information:

*            Title of the proposal

* Information about the candidate, including name, university affiliation, name of dissertation supervisor, web site address, and contact information: email address, mailing address, and phone numbers

The paper should provide the research question or topic, a justification for the importance of the research, a presentation of the theoretical basis and context for the research, a description of research approach and method, preliminary findings and expected contributions to knowledge. The paper should also include a progress report as an appendix, indicating the estimated completion date and the work that remains to be done as of the date of submission of proposal. The paper may not exceed 3,000 words. When preparing a submission, we recommend PhD students to reflect upon the following questions:

* What makes the research I do especially appealing for me?

*            For the discipline?

*            For practice?

* How can I justify that my research results will match the goals of the dissertation

* How can I show that the results of my work will contribute to advancing the field?

Selection Process and Related Information Selection to the ECIS doctoral consortium is based on merit. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the consortium faculty. Participants will be selected based on the quality of the proposed research, its potential significance and contribution to the IS discipline, the potential contribution the student is likely to make to the consortium, and the potential benefit of the consortium to the student's research. Participation is limited to 20 students and at most one student will be accepted from one institution. The doctoral consortium committee will seek to include the best proposals as well as to balance the background and interests of the candidates. Nominating a student to the doctoral consortium implies that the student has sufficient proficiency in English and will be able to participate effectively in the presentations, discussions, and other activities. Nominating a student to the doctoral consortium also implies that the student has or will be provided with the funding to travel to the consortium location and that he or she will be able to stay for the entire duration of the event. Notifications of acceptance or otherwise will be sent via e-mail to all applicants by April 14, 2017. Further instructions will be sent to the participants ahead of the event.

Participation in the consortium is by invitation only based on competitive selection. There is no registration fee and room and board at the consortium are provided courtesy of ECIS 2017 and the conference sponsors.

However, all participants are required to register for the main conference and advised to take advantage of the early-bird students' rate.
