The Department of Information Systems in the College of Business Administration at Georgia Southern University invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair. The position will carry the rank of associate professor or professor, depending on qualifications.

Georgia Southern University, classified as a doctoral/research institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, is a member of the University System of Georgia. As the largest and most comprehensive research institution in southeast Georgia, the University is a residential campus of more than 20,500 students representing 48 states and 89 nations.    

The Department of Information Systems supports the college’s BBA and MBA programs. The department is well known as a leader in the delivery of ERP and enterprise systems education and preparing students and professionals for successful careers in ERP and business process integration as well as other IS related jobs. The department also has significant expertise in business analytics/business intelligence and project management education. Faculty members participate in the SAP University Alliance program as well as the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and Project Management International (PMI). They also participate in the delivery of the department’s Online Graduate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Certificate program with an emphasis in SAP, as well as courses that support the MBA, Master of Accounting, and Masters in Applied Engineering programs. A master’s degree in Enterprise Systems is in the planning stages. 
The Department Chair position is a 12-month, appointment beginning July 1, 2017, and has a competitive salary that is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The new chair will have the opportunity to be involved with the recruitment of several new tenure track Information Systems faculty in the near term.

Required Qualifications:

•               Earned PhD/DBA from an AACSB, EQUIS or ABET accredited institution in information systems, or a closely related STEM discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in information systems;

•                Current position as an associate or full professor at an AACSB, EQUIS or ABET accredited institution at time of appointment;

•                Authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution;

•                Scholarly Academic Qualified under Georgia Southern’s College of Business Administration AACSB guidelines;

•                Record of scholarship, teaching and professional service commensurate with the rank of associate professor or professor at Georgia Southern;

•                Demonstrated experience in building and promoting degree and/or certificate programs at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels;

•                Collaborative leadership style with an appreciation for the principles of shared governance;

•                Effective communication and organizational skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

•             Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding for the department via grants, donations-in-kind, and other monies from government agencies and/or corporate and alumni partners;

•                Evidence of successful academic administrative ability demonstrated by position as a department chair or area lead faculty;

•                Reputation as a scholar and/or significant industry experience in Enterprise Systems, Business Analytics or Project Management;

•                Demonstrated ability to grow programs in terms of the number of students in the programs;

•                Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire, retain and promote exceptional faculty in Information Systems or related field;

•         Demonstrated ability to interact with the business community in terms of the number of companies recruiting students for internships, co-ops and full-time opportunities.

Screening of applications begins March 20, 2017, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is July 1, 2017.
