* Tenure Track - TU Delft - Assistant Professor - ICT Architectures for Cyber-Physical Systems (Energy & Mobility) *

In today's society, ICT plays a critical role to ensure the proper functioning of (infrastructure) systems and services resulting in dependable or cyber-physical systems. Systems, applications and information sources are distributed all over the world. More and more data are being opened and shared, and a plethora of sensors in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) collect a huge amount of data that can potentially be used for analysis, design, and operation of energy and mobility infrastructures. ICT architectures effectively and efficiently combine, share, process and analyse data and will determine data's value. ICT infrastructures that are interoperable, flexible, robust, scalable and secure and thus ensure safe and secure operation of energy and mobility systems are of key importance.
Energy and mobility systems are more and more enabled by sensors providing a wealth of data and controlled by disparate systems. Existing methods typically involve large ICT systems located within a single institution, whereas the rise of IoT requires distributed data governance and transaction mechanisms based on flexible and smart contracts, secure data exchange with low latency and being able to scale up and down. New ICT architectural patterns like block chain, clouds and smart transactions enable these new forms of distributed architectures.
A Tenure Track, a process leading up to a permanent appointment with the prospect of becoming an Associate or full Professor, offers young, talented academics a clear and attractive career path. During the Tenure Track, you will have the opportunity to develop into an internationally acknowledged and recognised academic. We offer a structured career and personal development programme designed to offer individual academics as much support as possible. For more information about the Tenure Track and the personal development programme, please visit www.tudelft.nl/tenuretrack<http://www.tudelft.nl/tenuretrack>.
The candidate selected will be provided with a PhD position to ensure a quick start and to accelerate research in this area.

The candidate should have a convincing track record in the field of ICT and/or ICT architectures for socio-technical systems via a relevant PhD study (information systems, computer science, systems engineering or related areas) and an independent and growing research portfolio related to elements like distributed architectures, information architectures and services (IoT, open data, service innovation), component-based systems, ICT-driven system design and modelling (databases, linked data, semantic technologies) or data-driven architectures (algorithms, data analytics).
In addition to a strong specialisation in ICT architectures, the candidate is expected to have an affinity for connecting ICT and mobility and/or ICT and energy systems.
Successful candidates are expected to establish a strong, externally funded research programme.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain active, strong, and fruitful connections with existing research and teaching in the area of ICT, ICT architectures, distributed systems or data science. In addition, we expect the successful candidate to reach out beyond these specific focal points, and connect with related research performed by scholars throughout the department.
Successful candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as proven by UTQ certification or the willingness to obtain it.

Delft University of Technology (the TU Delft) is a multifaceted institution offering education and carrying out research in the technical sciences at an internationally recognised level. Education, research and design are strongly oriented towards applicability. The TU Delft develops technologies for future generations, focusing on sustainability, safety and economic vitality. At the TU Delft you will work in an environment where technical sciences and society converge. The TU Delft comprises eight faculties, unique laboratories, research institutes and schools.

The tenure track Assistant Professor will be positioned in the Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) Department. The core activity of the department is to model, understand, forecast, and shape emerging technological innovations and user patterns in the increasingly interconnected sectors of energy, mobility, and ICT, and to use these insights for improved design, regulation, and operation of such engineering systems. ESS aims to contribute to the scholarly debate at the highest international level, and is rooted in both engineering and social sciences.
The department is hereby announcing an open position to realise its ambitions (in both research and education) in the emerging area of ICT architectures for dependable systems.
