CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS: The journal invites contributions from all parts of
the world from academic and industry scholars involved in research,
management, and the utilization of global information resources. Besides
quality work, at a minimum each submitted article should have the following
three components: an IS topic, an international orientation (e.g., cross
cultural studies or strong international implications), and strong evidence
(e.g., survey data, case studies, experiments, secondary data, etc.).
Please submit your manuscript to the submission site:
http://www.editorialmanager.com/ugit

REVIEW PROCESS: Each suitable article is blind-reviewed by three members of
the editorial review board. A recommendation is then made by the
Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor. The final decision is made by the
Editor-in-Chief. If a revision is recommended, the revised paper is sent
for final approval to one of the Editors.

CONTENTS OF VOLUME 19, NUMBER 4 (Oct-Dec, 2016) OF THE JOURNAL OF GLOBAL
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT (JGITM)

EDITORIAL PREFACE: BIG DATA ANALYTICS: A FIELD OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR
INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY RESEARCHERS
Jaideep Ghosh, Shiv Nadar University, India, jaideep.ghosh at snu.edu.in
In recent years, the information systems (IS) research community has been
experiencing an exciting time discovering and coming to grips with many
unexplored or untapped opportunities for research that lie at the
intersection of the disciplines of information systems and technology, big
data, analytics, and data science. In this article, we discuss the some of
the critical aspects of the big-data problem and show their importance as
well as relevance to IS research. We also propose a number of research
problems in this area that interested IS scholars can address to delve more
deeply into the field as well as to generate further active interest of the
subject within the IS community.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS OUTSOURCING REASONS AND RISKS: REVIEW AND EVOLUTION
Reyes González (mr.gonzalez at ua.es), Jose Gascó & Juan Llopis
The present article proposes a set of outsourcing reasons and
risks—subsequently assessing them in the case of major Spanish companies
through a survey that has been replicated twice. A questionnaire was
administered to the Information Systems managers of the largest Spanish
firms in order to achieve these aims. An analysis was carried out to check
if the proposed reasons and risks are valid for firms regardless of their
size or their degree of outsourcing, later complemented with a study of the
effect that time has on them, showing a 12-year evolution.

IDIOCENTRISM VERSUS ALLOCENTRISM AND ETHICAL EVALUATIONS ON ILLEGAL
DOWNLOADING INTENTION BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND SOUTH KOREA
Namkee Park, Hyun Sook Oh & Naewon Kang (nkang at dankook.ac.kr)
This study examined the effects of the personality dimension of
idiocentrism and allocentrism, individual experiences, and ethical
evaluations on illegal downloading intention. Using data from surveys of
college students in the United States and South Korea, the study uncovered
that South Korean students are more likely to download illegal content than
the U.S. counterpart. The study found the personal trait of self-reliance
affected illegal downloading intention for the U.S. students, as expected,
while that of interdependence affected the intention for South Korean
students. Of more interest is that self-reliance, which is likely to be
prominent in individualistic societies, played an important role in
explaining illegal downloading intention among the students of South Korea
where collectivistic culture has traditionally been predominant. Further,
the role of individual experience and ethical evaluations played
differently in accounting for illegal downloading intention among the U.S.
and South Korean students.

AWARENESS AND ATTITUDES OF SMALL-SCALE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS
OPERATORS IN LAGOS, NIGERIA TOWARD E-WASTE HAZARDS
Williams Nwagwu (nwagwwe at unisa.ac.za) & Margaret Okuneye
Electronic waste, consisting of fairly used and unusable electronic and
electrical equipment, is the fastest growing solid waste in the world, and
it contains substances that are toxic to human health and environment.
Businesses anchored on e-waste thrive in Lagos, Nigeria, and many studies
have examined the hazards caused by e-waste, but none of the studies
examined the awareness and attitudes of the e-waste dealers toward the
health hazards of the waste they generate. The aim of this study is to
examine the awareness and attitudes of e-waste dealers in Lagos, Nigeria
toward the health hazards of e-waste, understand the factors influencing
their behavior, and the likelihood that they will embrace adequate e-waste
management practices as well as how these variables are related to their
socio-demographic characteristics. The study is guided by the Theory of
Reason Action. Data analysis was guided by binary logistic regression. The
e-waste dealers are aware about the health hazards of their goods and are
willing to adopt adequate behavior toward managing them. However, they
would be willing to co-operate with the Lagos State government in this
regard more than they would with their trade association or federal
government agencies. The negative attitude of the e-waste dealers toward
e-waste, despite their high level of awareness about e-waste hazard, is a
very significant observation. The Lagos State government should lead mass
awareness programs encompassing all the stakeholders of e-waste.

BOOK REVIEW: NEW TRENDS IN INTELLIGENT INFORMATION AND DATABASE SYSTEMS
(2015)
Reviewed by: Robert Vinaja, Texas A&M University San Antonio, Texas, USA,
bvinaja at tamusa.tamus.edu
Dariusz Barbucha, Ngoc Thanh Nguyen, John Batubara
An ambitious objective for researchers has been to create computers that
can mimic or replicate human intelligence. Researchers have achieved only
partial success in reaching this goal. This book contains 38 chapters based
on papers presented at the Seventh Asian Conference on Intelligent
Information and Database Systems taking place in Bali, Indonesia. It is
organized into five sections. The book provides a solid collection of
innovative research. This book will be very appealing to researchers and
practitioners interested in applications of newer databases and artificial
intelligence to enhance information systems.
