Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) Health Information Technology

The Integrated Information Technology Department, College of Engineering and Computing, at the University of South Carolina invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Health Information Technology. The successful candidate will join the faculty of our Masters in Health Information Technology (MHIT), an interdisciplinary program with the Arnold School of Public Health. A new collaboration in nursing informatics with USC’s School of Nursing has also been proposed. A joint appointment with the USC School of Nursing is anticipated. The MHIT program is designed to prepare graduates ready to lead healthcare into the future. It is available both on-campus and online, and as a dual degree with the PharmD in the School of Pharmacy. The program is accredited in health informatics by the Commission for Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

Successful candidates will be expected to establish a strong externally funded research program. Online as well as traditional classroom teaching, directing student research, and university and professional service will be expected.

An earned research doctorate focused in information technology or a health-related discipline is expected. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both information technology and the healthcare environment, and a demonstrated potential for research and high scholarly impact at the intersection of these two disciplines. Candidates should possess a strong commitment to teaching, interdisciplinary research, and cultural diversity.

Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in online teaching, grant writing/external funding and/or IT responsibilities in health organizations. Familiarity with healthcare clinical environments is preferred.
