The Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) is the premier
conference in the Australasian region for the Information Systems
discipline. This year will mark the 28th year of the conference?s long
history. ACIS 2017 will be hosted by the University of Tasmania in Hobart,
Australia, at the Wrest Point Hotel Casino<http://wrestpoint.com.au/>.

Information Systems is a young, broad discipline that has already been
exposed to change and challenge through ICT based innovation of business and
the blurring of boundaries between business and the community. Ultimately,
our breadth of inquiry is a strength of the Information Systems community
but one that may be viewed as a weakness when not clearly communicated. This
applies in particular given that IS as a discipline naturally interfaces
across a range of disciplinary boundaries.

Accordingly, this year?s conference theme is Data, Knowledge and Decisions.
With this theme, we wish to highlight both the reach of the Information
Systems community to a plethora of disciplines, and also the variety of
challenges, ranging from data analytics and decision making to inquiries
about the very nature of data, knowledge, and decisions which may be
conceptualised and experienced in very different ways.

Therefore, at ACIS 2017 we would like to challenge you to think critically
about Data, Knowledge and Decisions. What are our challenges in light of the
large volume of data currently being generated, which needs to be managed,
organised and analysed to determine its value proposition? How can we
support the creation of knowledge from the information that is created
through the analysis of such data? As one of the fundamental roles of
Information Systems is supporting decision making, how do we adjust our
current understanding of Information Systems in response to new technology,
such as social media?

Join us at ACIS2017 in Hobart, where we will explore these issues both
through our plenary sessions and our collection of thematic tracks.

Submission Types:
- Full Research Papers
- Research-In-Progress Papers

Full Research Papers
Completed research papers should include all details of the research
undertaken including research method, data analyses and results. These
papers should be of the highest academic standard. Papers can be conceptual
in nature, technical or empirical. Empirical papers may report on research
that is either quantitative or qualitative or mixed methods. Research papers
must be no more than 10 pages in length and must adhere to the ACIS 2017
template.

Research-in-Progress Papers
Research-in-progress papers present an interesting research topic that has
not yet been (fully) investigated but that will be of interest to the
Information Systems community. These papers should include expected
results/conclusions, but may lack actual results or may have only
preliminary results. Research-in-progress papers are still expected to apply
the same standards of academic rigour as is the case for research papers. In
particular, research-in-progress papers are not unfinished research papers;
it is the research itself that is unfinished. Research in progress papers
should be no more than 8 pages in length and adhere to the ACIS 2017
template.

Research-in-progress papers will be presented by the authors as posters in a
dedicated session during the conference. The best accepted
research-in-progress papers will be invited to be presented in a regular
presentation session and be published in the proceedings.

Submissions of both Research and Research in progress papers should be made
to the track that best fits the topic area (see above).

Panel, Workshop and Tutorial Proposals
Shortly we will also invite proposals for panels, workshops and tutorial
sessions. Details on the format of these sessions and on the review process
will follow in a separate call for submissions and will be made available
via the ACIS 2017 website.

Healthcare in particular has come under increasing pressure to reduce cost
while improving the quality of care. One way to achieve this is by further
improving the efficiency of treatment processes: by making more efficient
use of the scarce resources, only effective treatments are executed.
Luckily, the advance of big data and increased support of information
systems in day-to-day healthcare processes provide the data needed to find
efficiency gains.
Process mining is a novel collection of techniques that connects the areas
of data science and business process management. Using process mining
techniques healthcare processes can be analysed in great detail. Based on
event data (what happened when, by which resource, and for which patient),
process mining techniques can automatically discover process models,
describing the process flow of the majority of patient treatments. Existing
process models or guidelines can be validated against the event data, in
order to analyse deviations. Performance and bottleneck information can be
projected on process models to easily detect where most time is spent in a
process. Also the social network of how resources in a process collaborate
and hand over work can be analysed, all based on the event data containing
four columns: what, when, for which patient, and by whom.

Overview
Health care innovations have always been important to the advancement of
medical care and the well-being of the individual.  These innovations have
taken on an even greater significance in the recent decade due to the
national attention on making affordable care accessible to more people by
reducing the overall cost of care. These innovations can be seen in products
as well as services that complement the health care industry.  Some of these
innovations occur inside the medical facility while others are present
outside medical facilities.  Technology artefacts that support innovations
in patient care need to consider the complex care process between patients
and a team of health care providers. This calls for an integration of these
technology artefacts (products) with innovative care processes to align the
goals of many of these care providers with the health needs of their
patients.  The goal of this workshop is to look at a mix of product and
process innovations in each stage of the care cycle: preventive care,
"hospital" care and post-discharge care.  The workshop panelists will
present their work in the design and delivery of health care innovations as
well as opportunities and challenges in assimilating such innovations into
the care processes.

The workshop intends to attract a broad range of contributions to develop
this scholarly field during a full day venue.
We invite scholars and practitioners to discuss synergies between virtual
and augmented reality (VR & AR) and artificial

in computer science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), psychology/cognitive

design and art to develop this fascinating intersection. The aspects to

While AI's main aim is to replicate human intelligence, AR and VR focuses
its research efforts on the creation of artificial
worlds either in complete virtual world, or as part of our physical
environment. Many examples that bridge the two fields have
emerged recently, e.g. intelligence in digital games, utilization of
computer graphics hardware for deep learning and AI, emotional
and affective interaction, etc. Thus, while AI and VR/AR went rather
distinct research pathways, we attempt to bring them together,
and discuss different aspects at the intersection of machine intelligence
and human interaction in a mixed reality. We raise the
question: what happens when artificial worlds start to think, and we humans
interact with it? We would like to follow up the
philosophical discussions around issues such as what happens when things
start to think, and Alan Turing's works. In this workshop,
we would like to raise a question: what would happen when artificial worlds
start to think, and how  we humans can interact and
communicate with AI through e.g. affective interfaces?

As our emphasis is on creating the synergy between VR/AR and AI/ML, we are
not limited to particular areas; instead, the following

Aims and Scope
==================

Nowadays, most aspects of our daily life are affected by pervasive
technology, consisting of massive numbers of heterogeneous components
(e.g., devices, software applications, smart objects), featuring complex
interactions among them and, possibly, with humans.

These complex systems are typically referred to as Collective Adaptive
Systems (CAS). Such systems have to be equipped with dynamic and autonomous
adaptation capabilities, to deal with changes in their working environments
and within themselves. CAS are also collective systems as they involve huge
collections of cooperating components, trading off individual tasks with
overall system goals.

The development of CAS is closely related to other contemporary software
engineering approaches, such as self-adaptive systems, component-based
systems, service-based systems, middleware platforms, as well as other
areas of Computer Science, such as Distributed Artificial Intelligence,
Agent-based Programming, Pervasive Computing, Internet of Things, and
Autonomic Computing.

This track aims to provide them with a common forum for discussing their
different viewpoints and for sharing ideas. On this very subject, the aim
is to attract relevant and consistent contributions from many different
research communities.

The Special Track on Collective Adaptive Systems deliberately takes a broad
view of what CAS are and how they should be designed, analysed, implemented
and deployed. In particular, of interest to the track are both foundational
views (e.g., theories, methods, formalisms, models) and practical aspects
(e.g., development methodologies, programming languages, middleware,
development and runtime environments, tools). Moreover, also applications
of CAS solutions to real-world case studies are welcomed.

Major topics of interest this year will include the following:

Proceedings and Post-Proceedings
================================
Papers accepted for the Collective Adaptive Systems track will be published
by
ACM both in the SAC 2018 proceedings and in the ACM Digital Library.

Paper registration is required, allowing the inclusion of the
paper/poster in the conference proceedings. An author or a proxy
attending SAC MUST present the paper: This is a requirement for the
paper/poster to be included in the ACM/IEEE digital library. No-show
of scheduled papers and posters will result in excluding them from the
ACM/IEEE digital library.

Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version of
their work to an international journal.

Student Research Competition (SRC) Program
==========================================
Graduate students are invited to submit research abstracts
(maximum of 2 pages in ACM camera-ready format) following the
instructions published at SAC 2018 website. Submission of the
same abstract to multiple tracks is not allowed.

All research abstract submissions will be reviewed by researchers and
practitioners with expertise in the track focus area to which they are
submitted. Authors of selected abstracts (up to 18 students) will have
the opportunity to give poster and oral presentations of their work
and compete for three top-winning places. The SRC committee will
evaluate and select First, Second, and Third place winners.
The winners will receive medals, cash awards, and SIGAPP recognition
certificates during the conference banquet. Invited students receive
SRC travel support (US$500) and are eligible to apply to the SIGAPP
Student Travel Award Program (STAP) for additional travel support.

Paper Submission
================
Original papers from the above-mentioned or other related areas will be
considered. This includes three categories of submissions:

1. original and unpublished research;
2. reports of innovative computing applications in the arts, sciences,
   engineering, business, government, education and industry;
3. reports of successful technology transfer to new problem domains.

Each submitted paper will undergo a blind review process and will be
refereed by at least three referees.
To ease blind review, *you shall remove author names* from your
paper before submitting it.
Accepted papers in all categories will be published in the ACM SAC
2018 proceedings.

The camera-ready version of the accepted paper should be prepared using
the ACM format (guidelines are given on the SAC 2018 web site).
Accepted full papers should not exceed 6 pages in a double column
format (with the option, for an additional per-page fee, to add 2 more
pages).

The Special Interest Group (SIG) on Ontology Driven Intelligent Systems is
soliciting nominations for the position of Treasurer. As an officer of the
SIG, the Treasurer is a member of the Executive Board. Duties include
attending meetings (conducted via Skype during the academic year),
contributing to decision making for the organization, and reporting on the
financial status of the SIG. According to the By Laws, the term of office
is two years. The term will begin Jan.1st, 2018. Elections will be held via
email on November 1st, 2017.

The treasurer's primary duties shall be to:

   - Maintain the financial records of the SIG and produce an annual
   financial report.
   - Review all applications for membership and maintain a membership
   roster.

Aims and Scope

Due to the emerging computing paradigm, the physical, social, and mental

properties and practices across the broad applications in cyber-enabled

The School of Business of the University at Albany, State University of New
York invites applications for 3 tenure track Assistant Professor positions
in Digital Forensics and Cyber Security beginning fall 2018. Exceptional

both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in MIS, Computer Science, Information

information security and/or digital forensics. The faculty will support the
very successful undergraduate program in Digital Forensics as well as a new
1-year master?s program in Digital Forensics.
We expect new faculty members to participate in research, curriculum
development, teaching, and grant-related activities (writing, reporting, and
management). We have a long history of strong research funding and will
prefer candidates with demonstrated experience in applying for and obtaining
external funding.
This is a 10-month appointment that allows for supplementary summer salary
from research funding. The normal teaching load is two courses per semester
for faculty who work with graduate students and who are research active
(before course buyouts). We expect new faculty to strengthen our majors,
strengthen our undergraduate program, and strengthen the University mission
through (i) teaching with distinction, (ii) maintaining a strong
externally-funded research program, (iii) effectively mentoring graduate
students, and (iv) participating as necessary in service to the department,
school, and the university.
Requirements:

Businesses are gathering an unprecedented amount of data to gain deeper
insights into customer behavior and markets with the bottom line in mind.
Popular analytical applications are: churn prediction, response modeling,
credit risk modeling, sales forecasting and anomaly detection. Several
analytical techniques have been developed to address such problems, where
the focus has typically been on algorithmic complexity, statistical
significance or detection power. However, to be successful from a business
standpoint, analytical models need to do much more, namely, add business

The objective of this special issue is to publish high-quality papers that
