2017 Pre-ICIS SIGDSA Symposium: Teaching Track Call for Papers
DATE:  Sunday, December 10, 2017, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

LOCATION: COEX Convention Center, Seoul, South Korea

As companies increasingly embrace emerging business analytics and machine learning technologies to enhance business value, academia is responding with innovative curricula in online, traditional and hybrid delivery formats that meet the industry needs. Aligned with the Symposium theme of “Analytics for Societal and Organizational Transformations”, we seek submissions of teaching-related content with emphasis on business intelligence, big data analytics, cognitive analytics, social media analytics, machine learning, IoT analytics, data science, visualization, or other emerging analytic technologies. Submissions should address acquisition, application, and continued development of the knowledge and skills required in the use of business analytics in the classroom. Contributions could be of varied types, including completed or ongoing pedagogical studies, teaching cases, tutorial exercises or similar artifacts related to curriculum, pedagogy/teaching, and learning, addressing topics including but not limited to:

§  Business Analytics (BA) curriculum development with assessment methods

§  Bodies of knowledge for Business Intelligence, Analytics, Machine Learning, Data Science

§  ‪Developing interdisciplinary focus that cuts across traditional functional areas

§  Differentiating business analytics curricula for Undergraduate, MBA, Master of Science and Executive Education, and tailoring curricula to generalists and specialists

§  Integration of IT and analytics skills

§  New BA programs, courses, and centers

§  Pedagogical innovations in business analytics

§  ‪Innovations in delivery of analytics courses (online, hybrid, student interaction, etc.)‪

§  Organizational case studies (with teaching notes) that provide rich stories of individual organizations’ management and analytics initiatives and address a variety of issues in management sponsorship, strategic priorities, adoption and implementation of analytics, technical challenges, collaboration, communication, and actionable results in business analytics:

o   ‪Different stakeholders involved in decision-making process and their role in implementation success

o   Success factors and reasons for failure

o   Role of strategic planning in adoption of analytics and implementation success

o   ‪Metrics to measure effectiveness of these technologies to enhance business value

o   Organizational challenges and barriers

§  Ethical and/or global issues

§  Tutorial exercises (with teaching notes) and simulations that provide a business scenario, data sets, and step-by-step introduction to the latest business analytics tools, covering topics including but not limited to:

o   Integration of data management and analytics

o   ‪Integration of analytics and visualization tools

o   Analytics certification and digital badges programs

o   Open source vs. proprietary platforms

o   The use of platform and/or software to enhance pedagogy for data mining, cognitive analytics, text mining, and sentiment analysis using social media data and big data

§  Data sets that can be used by other faculty members to augment their pedagogy

§  Hands-on software experiences and software tutorials

 BEST PAPER AWARD: One paper from the teaching track will be selected for the “Best Paper” award recognition.
IMPORTANT DATES:
      Sep 8th, 2017 (Friday): Submission deadline for authors (by midnight PST)
      Oct 10th, 2017 (Tuesday): Acceptance decisions communicated to authors
      Oct 31st, 2017 (Tuesday): Camera ready papers/Extended abstracts due (by midnight PST)
      Nov 10th, 2017 (Friday): Early registration deadline for the authors, at least one author must be registered for the symposium
      Dec 10th, 2017 (Sunday): 2017 Pre-ICIS SIGDSA Symposium (9:00 am-6:00 pm local time)
